University of Manchester has ranked 23rd in The Times Good University Guide

The uni has risen one place since last year’s league table

The University of Manchester has been ranked 23rd by The Times Good University Guide 2024.

Succeeding the University of Leeds in 24th place and being beaten by the University of Birmingham in 22nd place, Uni of Manchester has risen one place since last year’s ranking.

The uni scored highly on research quality, where it placed as seventh, as well as receiving a 96.2 per cent continuation rate.

It also received high scores on graduate prospects, placing in 17th place with 86.6 per cent, as well as the number of firsts and 2:1s, where it placed 20th at 86.8 per cent.

Teaching quality however, was placed within the bottom 10 at 69.5 per cent, ranking it at 121st place. But the student to staff ratio sat at a comfortable 19th place, with a ratio of 13.9:1.

Student satisfaction with teaching quality was highest within accounting and finance, at 77.1 per cent, closely followed by aeronautical and manufacturing engineering at 60.5 per cent. The subjects with the lowest student satisfaction include town and country planning and landscape at 69.4 per cent and theology and religious studies at 74.1 per cent.

Despite a lower student experience score of 66.3 per cent, The Times noted that Manchester is a strong contender in global rankings where student satisfaction is not a factor, ranking 28th in the world and ninth in Europe in the QS World University Rankings 2023.
