A look inside the incredibly wholesome real life cottage from The Holiday

The Holiday is truly one of the greatest Christmas romance movies there is, with a story quite like no other. The movie was released around 16 years ago and fans everywhere have desperately wanted to know where Iris’ quaint Surrey cottage is in the film. Forget Amanda’s LA mansion, it’s all about wholesome cottages to get over your ex in the Christmas season. Each year people rave about how much they love the cottage and would do anything to stay there, and it is now available to rent on AirBnb after a couple bought it without realising it was from the movie.

Over the years people have turned up to the cottage taking photos outside, but no one really knows how much of it has changed on the inside from the movie. Here is a look inside the real life cottage from The Holiday:

The home is called Honeysuckle Cottage rather than Rosehill Cottage

In the movie, Amanda swaps homes with Iris and ends up at Rosehill Cottage. When the movie was first being researched, the crew visited the home but when they realised it was too far from London, it was recreated brick by brick in a studio. The studio recreation is an identical match for the real life cottage in The Holiday.

The couple who had no idea of the cottage’s significance bought it for £625,000. The cottage also has an incredible view over the Surrey Hills.

It’s the most wholesome home you’ll ever see

There are noticeable differences from the movie to the real life cottage but it still has the quaint and warm feeling to it, with an AGA stove and underfloor heating. Jon, one of the owners of the cottage, said: “Just everything was beautiful – low ceilings, it’s beamed, it’s got a massive inglenook fireplace with a log burner in.”

The real life cottage has three bedrooms

Although it seemed Iris lived in a tiny one bedroom cottage, the real life one actually has three bedrooms. Jon said: “I’m just really proud of it. It’s a very lovely house and we’re very lucky.”

The low ceilings are exactly like what you see in the movie

If there’s one thing Amanda wasn’t a fan of in The Holiday, it was the incredibly low ceilings of Iris’ cottage, which is exactly like the real life cottage. The Holmbury St Mary cottage is now available to rent on AirBnb and the couple who bought the property said they had immediate bookings.
