Decades of iconic films and shows: Rob Reiner’s insane legacy after his tragic murder with wife

Legendary Hollywood film-maker and actor Rob Reiner was found dead on Sunday alongside his wife of nearly 40 years, film producer Michele.

In what’s currently being treated as a homicide by police, Rob Reiner and Michele were found dead in their Los Angeles mansion on Sunday afternoon. Though details about them were initially kept secret, their identities were later revealed by both their family and the police. No arrests have been made, and no one has been named as an official suspect by the LAPD.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the family statement confirmed. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

As the police continue with their investigation, which most recently includes interviewing Rob Reiner’s son, here are the triumphant moments Rob Reiner will be remembered for.

Rob Reiner wrote, directed and produced a ton of films

After starting out in acting, Rob Reiner made his directorial debut in the 1984 cult classic, This Is Spinal Tap, which he also wrote. The sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, came out just earlier this year.

Even if you haven’t watched Rob as an actor, I’m willing to bet you’ve seen (and cried to) a number of his films over the years. Some of his most popular works include The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, A Few Good Men, Rumor Has It, And So It Goes, and Shock and Awe.

He was so iconic that he played himself most of the time

There simply wasn’t an area where Rob Reiner wasn’t working, for while he’s most known for his directing ability, he also starred in New Girl, The Partridge Family, Room 222, All in the Family, The Beverly Hillbillies, and even Batman in the world of TV.

I truly believe that you’ve reached peak acting ability when you appear as yourself in various TV shows and films – think Prince’s cameo in New Girl. Rob seemed to reach that level in the ’80s, going on to play himself in The Simpsons and taking on the role of host in Saturday Night Live.

Over the course of his career, he was nominated for countless Emmys, Golden Globes, and Directors Guild of America awards. He ultimately won two Primetime Emmy Awards, both for All in the Family.

It’s not as flashy, but Rob’s politics deserve to be spoken about

While the world of TV and film might have earned Rob Reiner a net worth of $200 million, he was – for lack of a better way of putting it – an absolutely beautiful human being.

A proud liberal activist, Rob fought for marriage equality, animal advocacy, the environment, international human rights issues, and even more. He was a staunch Democrat and was initially in the running to be Governor of California. Oh, and who could forget his abject hatred for a certain US President? He called him racist, sexist, anti-gay, and antisemitic, spearheading a documentary about *that* President’s relationship with Vladimir Putin.

Long story short: Rob Reiner was not only hugely talented, but also an increasingly rare role model for the rest of humanity. He will be sorely missed.
