Police appeal to ID two after laptops totalling thousands stolen from Uni of York library

The suspects used stolen student IDs to take them from the JB Morrell Library


Police have issued images of a man and woman they want to speak with as part of a theft investigation at the University of York.

Several ID cards were taken from students at the JB Morrell Library, which were then used to steal laptops.

The incident occurred last week on Tuesday 30th September, at approximately 5.30pm.

The pair entered the university library and removed bags belonging to students and which contained ID cards. The cards were then used to access university owned laptops, each worth over £500.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Two suspects entered the university and removed several bags which contained ID cards belonging to the students.

“The ID cards were then used to steal laptops, with each one worth approximately £700.”

The spokesperson asked anyone with information about the incident about the stolen laptops from the University of York, or who recognises them, to get in contact: “Please contact us if you recognise the man and woman pictured on CCTV, as we believe that they may have information that will assist our investigation.
