Trial update for OnlyFans model who claims she killed boyfriend with knife throw from 10ft away

She claims it was self defence, but medical examiner had different version of events

OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney, who stands accused of murdering her boyfriend in what she claims was an act of self-defence, is still awaiting trial due to several pending motions.

This week, and after first being arrested in August 2022, prosecutors and defence attorneys for Courtney Clenney, 29, indicated that they were not ready for the December trial as previously scheduled. This was due to several pending motions, so Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Andrea Ricker Wolfson set a deadline for those motions for December 5. A new trial date has not been set.

Courtney Clenney, known online as Courtney Tailor, is a former OnlyFans model and Instagram influencer who boasted 1.8 million followers before her arrest in 2022.

On April 3, 2022, Courtney called 911 to report that she had stabbed her boyfriend, Christian ‘Toby’ Obumsel, during an argument. She was covered in his blood during her initial police interview, and at the time, she alleged that the cryptocurrency investor had shoved her to the ground. In what she saw as an act of self-defence, she claimed to have killed him by throwing a knife from 10ft away.

Despite her claims, the medical examiner’s autopsy found that the knife had punctured the subclavian artery on the right side of his chest. They determined that the knife had not been thrown from that distance, but instead a forceful downward thrust of the blade.

Fast forward to August 2022, and Courtney was arrested on second-degree murder charges in Hawaii. As per her arrest warrant, detectives concluded that Courtney and Christian “were in a violent and toxic domestic relationship for over two years” that often escalated to the OnlyFans model “throwing and/or using weapons on various occasions.”

“These incidents culminated on April 3, 2022, with the defendant acting without justification and causing the death of the victim by stabbing the victim, in an imminently dangerous act demonstrating a depraved mind without regard for human life,” the warrant read.

At the time, Courtney’s lawyer, Frank Prieto, argued that the arrest warrant contained “deceptive and incomplete statements” about the case. He also addressed a viral video that showed a physical confrontation in an elevator a month before Christian’s death, stating that the “State Attorney’s Office is seeking to win this case in the court of public opinion by showing an irrelevant and likely inadmissible video of Courtney in an elevator getting physical with Obumseli.”

“He would manipulate and abuse Courtney in private when he thought nobody was around. Do not forget that the initial investigation from the City of Miami Police Department uncovered an independent witness who saw Obumseli hitting Courtney in the head while he thought he was in the privacy of Courtney’s apartment,” he added to Newsweek.

At the onset of 2024, Courtney Clenney’s parents, Kim and Deborah Clenney, were arrested in Texas and charged with unauthorised access to a computer. According to NBC, Courtney’s legal team and her parents had attempted to access a computer owned by Christian.

“Will be sending the laptop PIN ideas so we can try them before you see her again?” investigators said Kim Clenney wrote on Sept. 26, 2022.

At the time, Courtney’s legal team hit back by saying that the “Clenney family has been targeted with some trumped-up charges to discredit them in the press and make their lives miserable.”

There was even more mess after her parents’ arrest

Earlier this year, Assistant State Attorney Khalil Quinan stepped down after a judge ruled that prosecutors violated the attorney-client privilege when they collected communications between Courtney’s parents and her legal team. The charges against Courtney’s parents were soon dropped.

A trial date for Courtney Clenney should be set in the near future.
