All the Russell Group unis where the girlies outnumber the boys in 2025, revealed

King’s barely has any men, tbh

It’s great news for the girlies: female students actually outnumber male students at the majority of the UK’s Russell Group unis in 2025. Slay. At one Russell Group uni, almost two-thirds of the students are women.

More women go to university in the UK than men, plus girls got better A-Level grades than boys from 2019 to 2024. So, it makes sense that there are now plenty of girls kicking about on Russell Group uni campuses. It’s pretty surprising how much the numbers vary from uni to uni, though.

Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 included the ratio of female to male students at each university. So, here’s a deep dive into whether the girls outnumber the boys at your uni.

By the way, The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 don’t include details about gender non-conforming students. But if you’re interested, you can find very detailed data about the genders of students at UK unis here.

Only one Russell Group uni lets in fewer women than men in 2025

At Imperial College London, there are 43 female students for every 57 male students. A big reason for this will be that Imperial only offers undergrad courses in STEM and business, and girls are still underrepresented in these subject areas.

Two Russell Group unis have an even gender divide

The University of Warwick has pretty much the same numbers of men and women. A contributing factor for this might be that Warwick also has a strong emphasis on STEM subjects (although the uni offers plenty of humanities courses too).

The other Russell Group uni with a 50:50 split is the University of Cambridge. It still has two colleges that only admit female students. So, for the gender ratio to be evenly split, plenty of other colleges are letting in more men than women.
