After a new major change, what exactly are the rules around phones on MAFS UK this year?
It’s getting a bit confusing
MAFS UK, like most other dating reality TV shows, has restrictions around using your phone during filming. But recent social media posts from this year’s cast have exposed one major rule change. So what’s the deal with the phone rules in MAFS?
Ashley posted a video on his Instagram with two of the other MAFS grooms, Bailey and Joe, where they’re seen hanging out together at a pub.

Sacha Jones from last year’s season of MAFS commented: “I’m just so jealous of all yous being allowed the camera on your phone like this. Ours was blocked.”
Ashley replied saying, “They’ll definitely be blocked again next year,” with a laughing emoji.
In other seasons of MAFS, it was confirmed that contestants didn’t have access to their phones during the experiment. This was done for two reasons: to make sure they don’t get spoilers on what the other people on their season look like, and after the weddings, to help them focus on their relationship.
The contestants were given burner phones, which didn’t have a camera or internet access. But sometimes, production allow the contestants restricted smartphone access for video calls with family members.

It seems like the rules are constantly changing. Although there were some sightings of a Nokia brick type of burner phone throughout season eight, Jess Potter from season seven told The Sun she downloaded Tinder on her burner phone right after she quit the show, so her phone clearly had internet access.

During this season of MAFS, it looks like the cast were allowed smartphones with cameras, but couldn’t upload anything to social media until the series actually started. This cast has been especially vocal, sharing social media hot takes as the season develops, and putting out long Instagram Story statements every other day. There goes the NDA I guess!
