People on TikTok are visiting the real life house and grave of Ed Gein and his mother

Some have been leaving flowers

People on TikTok have been sharing videos of them visiting the real life house Ed Gein lived in with his mother, and the graves they now have. Everyone is talking about the chilling case once again, following the release of Monster: The Ed Gein Story on Netflix.

Killer Ed Gein was active in his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, from 1947 to 1957. He murdered two women, and was also a grave robber. He dug up corpses and kept them in his home, using skin from the bodies as masks, and making household objects out of it.

The relationship Ed Gein had with his mother Augusta is widely thought to have been the catalyst to his crimes. Ed Gein had a strange almost obsession with his mother, and was always trying to please her. When his father passed away, Ed Gein and his brother Henry took over the family farm, and when Henry died, Ed took over on his own. His mother then passed away, too.

Ed Gein later admitted to murder, and after this the family farm was abandoned. The house was later destroyed by a fire. Ed Gein died at the Mendota Mental Health Institute, in 1984. He has been buried between his parents and brother in Plainfield Cemetery. His gravesite was left unmarked.

People on TikTok have been visiting the grave site of Ed Gein, his mother and his family, as well as where the old family house stood. The videos show the empty plot where the home once was, and gravestones for Augusta and Henry Gein. Augusta’s grave is marked with “mother” and in between is a gap for where Ed is buried.

Whilst there is no stone, one video shows that people have left flowers across the empty space of grass. One TikTok zooms out further to show the grave of a woman called Eleanor Adams, and the poster explains that Eleanor is a “stone’s throw” away from the Gein family, which is the “craziest thing” because it’s believed Ed Gein exhumed her body.
