The Netflix show left us with so many questions
Everyone’s latest watch is true crime drama series Monster: The Ed Gein Story, on Netflix. The drama tells the story of the real life people in the chilling killer case. And one thing people seem to want to know after watching the show is, wait, did Ed Gein kill his own brother?
The show is gruesome, and that’s because the real life story was hideous. Killer Ed Gein was active in his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, from 1947 to 1957. The unassuming man became known as the Butcher of Plainfield, a serial killer and grave robber.
Ed Gein was found guilty of killing two women, but there’s also suspicion surrounding the death of his brother, Henry. The strange death of Henry is addressed in the Netflix show’s first episode.

Did Ed Gein kill his brother?
Henry Edward Gein was Ed Gein’s older brother. After their father’s death, Ed and his brother Henry took over the running of the family farm. They also picked up handyman jobs in the local area.
Henry was apparently worried about the attachment Ed had to their mother, and he often spoke ill of her around his brother. Ed was said to be hurt by this. In May 1944, Ed was burning marsh vegetation on the farm, and the fire got out of control. After the fire was put out, Ed reported his brother Henry as missing.

Henry was then strangely discovered dead. His body was found face down – with no clear injuries, and no burns from the fire. It was believed he had been dead for some time. Police said there was no foul play, and recorded Henry’s cause of death as asphyxiation. No official autopsy took place.
People suspected Ed was involved. It was claimed by biographer Harold Schechter that Henry had bruises on his head when his body was found. Ed Gein never admitted any involvement.
