Monster season 3: The horrifying furniture that killer Ed Gein really made from bodies
He covered chair seats with skin
Season three of Monster has finally dropped on Netflix. Monster: The Ed Gein Story is a recreation of the murderer and grave robber Ed Gein. If you’ve watched the show and are wondering whether Ed Gein really did make all that furniture out of human corpses, then we have answers for you.
Yup, Ed Gein really did admitting to taking bodies from graveyards
Ed Gein admitted to visiting three local graveyards several times between 1947 and 1952. He dug up bodies of middle-aged women who thought resembled his mother, and took them back to the farm.

The authorities did find chairs and other furniture made from human corpses
On 16th November 1957, Ed Gein was arrested for the murder of Bernice Worden. The Waushara County Sherif Department searched the farm, and found Bernice Worden’s body, along with many items made from human bodies. A crime lab investigator called Alan Wilimovsky also searched the house and inspected the evidence. This was all retold in Netflix‘s Monster: The Ed Gein Story.
The judge at Ed Gein’s trial, Robert Gollmar, wrote a book called Edward Gein: America’s Most Bizarre Murderer in 1981. It includes accounts of the people from the Sheriff Department and state crime laboratory who searched his house.
Authorities found several human skull with the tops sawn off so they could be used as bowls. Ed Gein used made a wastepaper basket out of skin, and a lampshade using skin from a face.

The book says: “We found leg bones and discovered the chair seats were made out of human skin. They were crudely made. The outside portion would be smooth and if you looked underneath you could see strips of fat. It wasn’t a good job.”
Bernice Worden’s head was found along with twine and nails, which led Robert Gollmar to wonder if Ed Gein had intended to hang it up somewhere.
What happened to all the furniture that Ed Gein made out of corpses?
Robert Gollmar wrote: “To those of you who are insatiable collectors of antiques and would pay any price for a lampshade made of human skin made by an authentic craftsman in this form of art, and answer is: none are available. The grisly relics were duly photographed at the crime lab and then decently disposed of.”
