It went viral on TikTok back in 2022

A decomposed body found in the boot of singer D4vd’s car has been identified as Celeste Rivas, who went missing from California early last year. The 15-year-old was described as 5’2 with long, dark, wavy hair. Her body was discovered wearing a black tube top and leggings.

Romantic Homicide is a short song and only has two stanzas, but the important part is the chorus:
In the back of my mind, you diedAnd I didn’t even cryNo, not a single tearAnd I’m sick of waiting patientlyFor someone that won’t even arrive
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-oh
In the back of my mind, I killed youAnd I didn’t even regret itI can’t believe I said itBut it’s trueI hate you

What do the lyrics of Romantic Homicide even mean?

In November 2022, D4vd did an interview with Genius, breaking down the lyrics of Romantic Homicide. He said a key part of his music is that the lyrics are up for interpretation.

“I didn’t kill her physically, but in the back of my mind she died,” D4vd said.

He then explained why the lyrics changed from “you died” to “I killed you” in the second part of the song.

“It’s not like the thought of her being gone is something she did, it was something I decided to do,” he said. “It’s really more of a figurative ‘I killed you,’ which is why I say it so loud.”

The Romantic Homicide video was uploaded to D4vd’s official YouTube channel in September 2022 and now has almost 200 million views, It shows D4vd, blindfolded and lying on the ground with brief flashes of a girl with dark curly hair appearing consistently. They stand opposite each other on different ends of a train track.

It then shows D4vd at what looks like a funeral, with the girl covered in rose petals and splatters of blood. Footage of a knife is also shown, as D4vd sings to her body.

A viral tweet put the images of the actress from the music video and Celeste Rivas side to side to compare them. Another tweet that claimed D4vd released the song on her birthday also went viral, but has since been debunked.
