Olivia Bowen ‘could have died’ giving birth to second baby in serious medical emergency
It was a very traumatic labour
Olivia and Alex Bowen announced the birth of their daughter Siena on Monday, and it’s now been revealed that she “could have died” in labour as there was a serious medical emergency.
She shared a gorgeous family photo with the newborn and their son Abel and wrote in the caption: “I can’t even find the words other than to say our beautiful girl Siena is here, and we are all bursting with love. It wasn’t an easy ride, but every second was worth it a thousand times over. I love my babies.”
The Love Islander hasn’t opened up any more about the birth, but a source told the Daily Mail the labour was very traumatic and Olivia could have died, because she needed an emergency blood transfusion.
“Olivia could have died during birth if it wasn’t for the incredible team at her local hospital,” the insider said. “She lost nearly three litres of blood needing an urgent blood transfusion and emergency c-section.”
The 31-year-old found out she was pregnant with twins at an early six-week appointment, but sadly lost one of the babies.
“We had that two-week period where we were looking at cars, we were looking at car seats, we were planning bedrooms. And we went back at eight [weeks], and something happened called vanishing twin syndrome,” Olivia said in an interview on Loose Women.
“One of the babies just basically didn’t have a heartbeat. But I’d had no symptoms, I’d had no pain. No bleeding. Absolutely nothing to tell me that that was what we were walking into, and I guess from that moment, we were just completely floored.

“We were expecting to have these two little babies, but vanishing twin syndrome, that is what happens. They can, as it says, literally just vanish.”
Thankfully, the one twin was born happy and healthy despite such a distressing birth, and Olivia is now recovering at home.
