Over 16 countries have been slapped with tsunami warnings after an 8.8 magnitude earthquake on Russia’s far eastern coast, near the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. In addition to Japan and countless coastal cities in the US, places such as Russia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Chile, Peru, and Ecuador have also issued warnings to their populace.

Kelsea Shepherd, who lives in Hawaii, was speaking to the BBC about the ongoing situation when loud sirens began wailing behind her. She attempted to continue with what she was saying, ignoring the sounds, but then even her phone was pinging with the alert.
“Sorry, we have a siren going off now,” she said.
The journalist questioned, “Just to clarify for our viewers, that’s you getting- is that another tsunami warning you just got?” and Kelsea confirmed: “Yeah.”
Looking at the message, Kelsea revealed that a tsunami was bound for Hawaii at 7:10 pm local time, according to the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency.

“We’ve just been advised to move out if you are in those coastal areas that will be impacted. I wouldn’t say we were prepared for this, but we did have a tsunami watch about a week ago and so for my husband and I immediately we packed up our 75 hour bags and we are just hoping that all the families can stay safe and get to high ground and hopefully the tsunami will not be harmful to Hawaii and everywhere around the world.”
