From a Tesla to a flat: These are the wildest graduation gifts UK uni students have received
We’re not sure whether to laugh or cry tbh
Whilst your graduation is certainly a day to remember and celebrate, some university students seem to have been rewarded with gifts worth more than their entire degree. A tough cost to beat given the three years of tuition fees and maintenance loans.
Social media users have taken to Reddit to discuss the costs of some of these frankly wild gifts, and honestly, I’m shocked.
So, what super extravagant graduation gifts have university students been receiving? Let’s see.
A trip to Japan and £50,000

A user on the subreddit r/UniUK posted a thread about their friend casually dropping into conversation that she is receiving £50,000 as well as a two week trip to Japan for her graduation.
Others were quick to jump on the thread, with one user stating “she could literally pay off her student loan with that money”.
Another commented: “Imagine the financial help they’ve got thus far.”
The original poster acknowledged that they did not attend “a top uni by any means” and was shocked by their friend’s admission as their university seemingly had a low percentage of private school students.
However, whilst some have told the original to stop comparing themselves, the student has seen the funny side to the situation, wishing: “May that lifestyle punch me in the face.”

However, it turns out that receiving outrageously expensive gifts isn’t as rare as you may think, as the thread became filled with others sharing the outlandish gifts they’ve heard of.

A commenter claimed: “One of my friend’s parents outright bought them a flat in central London so they don’t have to rent off a stranger during uni and can stay in London after graduation.”
Another replied that they knew a first-year student whose parents also bought him an apartment. At least they won’t have to deal with a nightmare landlord.

And it doesn’t stop there, one user apparently “knew someone who got a Tesla for getting a 2:2” and wondered what the gift would have been for a First.
Money rosettes

One graduate also chimed into the conversation, saying they saw several of their peers wearing rosettes made of literal bank notes and reckoned their graduation hall must have contained £150,000 in cash during the ceremony.
Wholesome gifts
However, it’s not all excessive displays of money. Users have also shared their wholesome grad gifts, such as a commemorative figurine one graduate had wanted for “literal decades”.
Others claimed just spending time with their loved ones was reward enough for their hard work. So, the internet can still be heartwarming after all.
