Influencer slammed for wearing ‘inappropriate’ wedding guest dress that ‘upstages’ bride
People are really divided
People have very different ideas of what’s appropriate to wear to a wedding as a guest, and an influencer is being slammed online for her dress choice.
British fitness influencer Ellena Hoad shared a “get ready for me” TikTok video for a wedding she went to earlier this month which shows her putting on a really bright floral dress.
The vibrant outfit is fully backless, with orange, pink and blue running through it and huge frilly ruffles all over. She paired it with a pair of boujie £700 white Bottega heels.

It’s caused quite a stir in the comments, with one person writing: “Not for a wedding, it’s a nice dress but not appropriate for a wedding.”
“The dress is giving ‘trying to upstage the bride’ vibes and ‘all eyes on me’. It’s a gorgeous dress and you look amazing in it, but it’s not for a wedding,” said another.
A third person added: “It’s a showstopper for sure, especially at the back. I’d only wear it if you hate the bride and want to steal her thunder.”
People thought the dress was way too extravagant and would take the attention way from the bride. Others said the open back made it unsuitable wedding attire.
After the backlash, the influencer clapped back and argued that the bride knew what she was wearing and was totally fine with it.
“The bride is a close friend and was fully aware of what I was wearing and it was perfectly ok,” she said.
@ellena_fit Replying to @TravellingCat Me in ✨the dress✨ I’m glad I’ve got thick skin because you were all brutal with your comments 🥲 also… the bride is a close friend and was fully aware of what I was wearing and it was perfectly ok 😌 #wedding #weddingootd #weddingoutfit #weddingguest

Others then defended her in the comments, with someone writing: “I think it’s lovely! I wouldn’t be offended if someone wore that to my wedding!”
“If someone wore that to my wedding, I would be asking them where it is from and if I could borrow it. You look amazing,” said another.
Someone else added: “I’m about to get married and I would have no issue with this dress.” If the bride didn’t care, neither should anyone else!
