Ryanair is being dragged for ‘insensitive’ TikToks about seat 11a in wake of Air India crash

Seat 11a is where the only survivor of the incident was sat

Ryanair is currently being dragged after two TikToks have resurfaced in the wake of the Air India crash that happened last week. The Gatwick bound flight crashed last Thursday, killing all but one on board.

Flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in a crash not long after take off. It was carrying 242 passengers in total, 53 of which were British nationals. So far, only one survivor has been confirmed. The survivor was sitting in seat 11a, which was the topic of two previous TikToks posted by Ryanair.

In the first, the budget airline made a video about how seat 11a on its flights doesn’t have a window. It posted the “expectations” of having a window when you sit in seat 11a, and then the “reality” when you sit down and you don’t.

The next video posted was about the same thing. It asked: “Why does 11a not have a window.” Then added: “Let me break it down for you”. Someone dressed as “Ryanair admin” then quite literally broke it down in dance, and didn’t answer the question.

The TikToks are a very creepy coincidence, as they were actually posted in May – before the crash happened. They have gone viral since, with the majority of the views on the videos coming since the Air India flight. The two videos have 1.8million and nearly 900k views respectively now.

Ryanair has posted more – unrelated – videos since, and people are wondering why these old ones haven’t been deleted, given what happened.

“This puts me off flying Ryanair…. absolutely unacceptable,” one person said in the comments. “I’d consider taking this post down now,” another said. Someone else echoed this and added: “It’s not too late to delete this.” Others called it “insensitive” that the videos are still live.

Others are defending Ryanair, and the fact the videos were posted before the incident. “It’s just crazy timing,” one person said. “It was posted weeks ago everyone,” someone else noted.
