The ultimate ranking of all the Love Island seasons by how wildly chaotic they were

Season three was absolutely wild

With season 12 already delivering early chaos in the villa, it’s time to rank every single Love Island UK season by one metric only: How absolutely chaotic they were. Forget romance, forget finding “The One”, I’m here for the drama, the tears, the explosive recouplings, and those moments that had us glued to our screens in pure disbelief.

So, here’s the ranking of every Love Island season by how chaotic they were.

12. All Stars season two

via ITV

A chaotic mess, but not the fun kind. Watching former Islanders try to recreate their glory days was more cringe than anything else. The drama felt forced, and the magic was completely gone. Bottom-tier villa energy, the two biggest “arguments” were Ekin and Elma bickering over Sammy’s kiss, and a brief spat between Harriett, Grace, and Olivia when the ex-Islanders returned.

11. Season six

via ITV

The “Great Gowns, Beautiful Gowns” season. Gorgeous couples, genuine connections, but about as chaotic as a Sunday morning. Peak wholesome content but minimum villa carnage. Love was in the air, chaos was not, even Callum Jones choosing to recouple with Molly Smith during Casa Amor, leaving Shaughna Phillips heartbroken was not TV mayhem.

1o. Season nine

via ITV

Filled with redundant and silly drama that got old quickly, like Ron Hall not helping with cleaning dishes or Olivia delivering Olympic-level overreactions to nothing. It was the kind of chaos that made you switch off rather than lean in.

9. Season one

via ITV

Chaotic in the most unhinged way possible, but the format was so different and the behaviour so genuinely problematic that it’s hard to enjoy. Screaming matches, aggressive confrontations, looping argument cycles, it felt more like a reality bootcamp than a romance show.

8. All Stars season one

via ITV

A flash-in-the-pan kind of chaos. Georgia Steel ran the villa like her own personal stage, flirting behind people’s backs, igniting recoupling chaos, and declaring “I’m loyal, babe” with zero irony. Molly and Callum being forced to live together post-breakup was awkward gold. But outside a few key players, the drama didn’t spread far.

7. Season 10

via ITV

Pretty consistent chaos throughout, but it never quite hit the peak levels. Whitney and messy Mitch brought their usual sparks, and the Molly-Zach saga added some awkward tension—but nothing that set the villa on fire. The return twist was wasted on Molly, who clearly wanted zero drama, killing any chance of big fireworks. And then Jess and Sammy somehow won this mess, perfectly summing up how the energy flatlined.

6. Season seven

via ITV

Slow burn chaos that exploded spectacularly later in the season. Toby’s head constantly turning (multiple times including at Casa Amor) provided consistent drama, and Hugo’s decision to save Chloe during a recoupling created major villa tension.

5. Season four

via ITV

Adam Collard’s villain origin story delivered consistent chaos as he destroyed couples left and right. He gaslit Rosie, left her crying while flirting with Zara, sparking scandal: Women’s Aid even labelled it emotional abuse. The Love Island equivalent of a natural disaster walking through the villa, systematically causing mayhem wherever he went.

4. Season eight

via ITV

Started as absolute chaos with Ekin-Su’s now-legendary terrace crawling incident with Jay to avoid being seen by Davide, plus Jacques’ emotional volatility throughout the season. However, the drama significantly died down in the later episodes. The first half delivered television gold with Ekin-Su’s theatrical antics.

3. Season three

via ITV

The perfect storm of comedy and chaos. Chris and Olivia’s toxic-but-entertaining relationship, the unforgettable Montana vs. everyone drama, and a cast that couldn’t go five minutes without exploding at each other. Peak entertainment value with just enough unhinged energy.

2. Season five

via ITV

Peak Love Island delivered peak chaos. From Michael’s Casa Amor betrayal of Amber to Maura’s legendary one-liners and aggressive pursuit of Tommy, this season never let up. The recoupling ceremonies were bloodbaths, and the villa was constantly on fire with drama.

1. Season two

via ITV

The undisputed chaos champion. The villa was a pressure cooker of intense drama and confrontations that made for genuinely difficult viewing at times. Malin confronted Terry after he moved on immediately; Kady screamed into pillows; confrontation after confrontation. It was a non-stop intensity fest. The season that cursed your sleep. It set the bar for unhinged reality TV behaviour and remains the most chaotic Love Island season ever produced.
