Patrick Grant, a judge for the Great British Sewing Bee, is set to take on the role of chancellor of Edinburgh’s Queen Margaret University.

He will take on the new role at the start of this year’s graduation cycle at Usher Hall on July 7th.

Patrick will not be the first TV personality to join the university, with celebrity chef Prue Leith having held the position from 2016.

Sir Tom Farmer, the former owner of Hibernian football club and the founder of the Kwik Fit garage chain also held the chancellorship from 2007 to 2015.

As university chancellor Patrick will serve as the ceremonial head of the university, presiding over graduation ceremonies and performing other ambassadorial roles like attending conferences and industry events.

He was born in Edinburgh, being raised in Morningside and gaining his primary education at Morningside Primary School before moving to Edinburgh Academy.

He would later move to Barnard Castle near Durham, England to attend boarding school before completing a degree in material sciences at Leeds University followed by a later MBA from the University of Oxford.

Pamela Woodburn, chairwoman of the Court of Queen Margaret University, said: “Patrick’s career and achievements resonate strongly with the university’s strong social justice ethos, and with our commitment to building strong communities and acting as a force for good.”
