We asked Exeter students what they will miss the most about deadline season and here’s what they said
Um…are you guys alright?
Finals and coursework deadlines season is well along now and certainly impacting all Exeter students at varying levels. Feedback and discourse surrounding the term range from ranting about coursework to beaming smiles and yapping about how lovely it is outside. Depending on your courses, modules and stage of uni completion, the way you feel academically varies from student to student.
As the days grow sunnier and EGB, Hijacked, and beach trips draw nearer, it’s hard for anyone to truly hate on third term. Whether the term is going by quicker than you can comprehend or creeping by slowly for those of us with less demanding courses, there’s lots to mourn when we’ve gotten past the final stretch of this 2024/25 uni year.
Here are some of the top responses from students of things that will be missed this term (unlike your deadlines):
Having something to do every day
It doesn’t matter if you have four exams and two essays to write, or if you’ve had all of your coursework completed in April – there’s always something to do. Students dealing with end-of-year commitments (academically or otherwise) can easily fill out their time in term three with errands and exam prep, and if you’re lucky enough to have a lighter workload this term, there are so many activities and day trips to keep you occupied!
Post-Studying Sweet Treat Runs
There’s nothing better than a sweet treat after an energy-draining exam or study session to celebrate your dedication! While there will always be sweet treats over the summer, they won’t be nearly as sweet or satisfying as that first bite after you’ve nearly lost the plot over sleep deprivation.
Most Read
“But maybe the sweetest treat should be the completion of our hard work,” some may argue. Be. So. Real.
Trauma-Bonding
Studying together for exams can bring out the best and worst in people. Being able to stick with your mates as they throw pens, books and even iPads at the wall shows the makings of a real friendship. Going through the same confusion over module topics, missing sample answers and why you chose the degree in the first place can be a truly bonding experience. By the end of the academic year, you may even miss the stress/reward of problem solving in these groups, call it “Study-Group Stockholm Syndrome.”
‘All Nighters in St Luke’s’
Personally, I could not tell you the struggles of the med students in St. Luke’s, but, similar to the previous response, there would be a lot of opportunity for memories to be made! An all-nighter of any kind usually inspires some odd stories, so I could imagine the St. Luke’s students getting into some strange events, potentially even new medical discoveries, during exam season.
Good Weather
Finally, after months of dreary grey skies, wishy-washy rain and unpredictable drops and spikes in temperature, we have SUN. Unfortunately, the weather decided to shine in our favour when most of us are cooped up in the library 80% of the day. Don’t despair – plan a beach trip to Exmouth as soon as you submit your final answer! In between study sessions, take a walk outside because Exeter is quite literally bleeding green at the moment.
