Who is Mark Geragos? The celebrity defence lawyer working to keep Diddy out of prison

He’s represented Michael Jackson, the Menendez brothers, and convicted killer Scott Peterson

Mark Geragos, a man whose sole purpose is to defend his high profile clients, and keep them as far away from prison as possible.

You might have heard his name in passing, if you’re a true crime aficionado, as this legal eagle has defended not just the Menendez Brothers, but Scott Peterson, Michael Jackson, and Chris Brown.

Mark Geragos has once again been thrust into the spotlight as he advises the defence team at P Diddy’s trial, but who actually is he?

He’s the criminal defence lawyer of the stars

Mark Geragos is THE criminal defence lawyer in Hollywood. If you’re in trouble and you’re a celeb, there’s no one else you’d want on your team other than Mark.

As well as the aforementioned A-listers, Mark has defended Nicole Richie, Kesha during part of her Dr Luke case, and President Bill Clinton’s former business partner Susan McDougal.

Famously, Mark represented Chris Brown after he pled guilty to assaulting Rihanna and secured him a plea deal which led to the R&B singer avoiding a jail sentence.

He also represented Winona Ryder during her infamous shoplifting case in which the Stranger Things star stole $5,500 worth of products from Saks in Beverley Hills.

You’ll need to pay a hefty fee if you want him to represent you

Whilst it would be hard to say a specific figure, as every trial is different, it is thought that top lawyers like Mark Geragos earn around $1,600 an hour.

Mark would also most likely have a retainer fee, which according to Neama Rahmani, founder of West Coast Trial Lawyers and a former federal prosecutor, could be around $1,000,000.

Therefore, if you think about Diddy’s case and the number of lawyers and legal professionals working on his team, he could be paying out around $100,000 per day during his trial.

He’s also a podcast host and has spoken about Diddy’s trial

When Mark isn’t in the courtroom, he hosts a podcast called 2 Angry Men with TMZ founder Harvey Levin. In the podcast, the two men break down Hollywood scandals, celebrity court cases and general A-lister chaos.

However, Mark has recently been in hot water for discussing the P Diddy trial on his podcast due to his role as a supposed advisor to the defence team.

According to Business Insider, federal prosecutors asked the trial’s judge that Mark be admonished from the case as he mentioned a video used as evidence in the trial. Although, it has been reported that Mark is not officially on Diddy’s legal team.

He has a super successful nepo baby daughter who’s also on Diddy’s defence team

Mark’s daughter, Teny Geragos, has truly made the most of being a nepo baby to one of Los Angeles’ most successful lawyers.

She has her own law firm in New York City called Agnifilo Infiltrator, and works to defend those accused of high profile crimes.

Teny is currently on Diddy’s legal team as is known for defending those accused of sexual misconduct, with that being one of her expert fields.

Mark has spoken proudly about his daughter, telling Megyn Kelly: “On a personal level, I was in court yesterday. I watched her deliver the opening statement, and I had told somebody who was sitting next to me, I only wish my father was alive to have watched it because he was my partner, and the talent skips a generation… I know she hit it out of the park.”

He’s a proud Armenian-American and does a lot of community work

Mark has worked with members of the Armenian community to help them get settlements for the Armenian Genocide.

The genocide took place between 1915 and 1917, and saw between 600,000 and 1,500,000 people die. It has been reported that he has won victims of the genocide a total of $37.5 million.

He also works on the board for the Truth And Accountability League (TAAL), which is an organisation focusing on stopping misinformation related to the Armenian Genocide and the Armenian people.
