City of Glasgow College pays tribute to former student found dead in London hotel

Samorine Djene Touré, 26, died over the May bank holiday


A former Glasgow student who was found dead in a London hotel room has been remembered by her college as tributes continue to pour in.

Samorine Djene Touré, aged 26, died unexpectedly over the May bank holiday weekend. Her body was discovered at a hotel in the Kendal Gardens area of North London on Sunday, 4th May.

Samorine had previously studied travel and tourism at City of Glasgow College. A college spokesperson said the institution was deeply saddened by the news of her death: “It is utterly heartbreaking to hear of the tragic passing of Samorine Djene Touré, a former travel and tourism student here at City of Glasgow College. Our deepest condolences go to Samorine’s family, friends, and former classmates for this very sad loss.”

According to Glasgow Live, Samorine completed her HNC in travel and tourism during the 2016/17 academic year, and was enrolled in the HND programme the following year before leaving the college in late 2017.

She was a former pupil of Knightswood Secondary School and had been living in the Yoker area of Glasgow while working for ScotRail.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers responded to reports of a sudden death at a property in North London. Emergency crews from the London Ambulance Service attended the scene shortly after 11 a.m., but Samorine was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesperson said: “Her death is being treated as unexpected but not believed to be suspicious. Her next of kin have been informed. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.”

Following her death, Samorine’s family launched an online fundraiser in an effort to repatriate her remains to the Ivory Coast, in accordance with her final wishes.
