Here are six things to look forward to in Exeter term three
From a final year student x
Here in Exeter, we thrive in the summertime. Even when the lectures are done and seminars are over, we occupy ourselves with many fun options of things to do and places to go (even if we still have exams to finish). Luckily, living in Devon isn’t all that boring, we have beaches, we have the Quay, and we have TP. Now that the sun is out and we enter the final term of the year, we decided to make a comprehensive list of all the things to look forward to in term three! Just as a way of keeping your spirits up and alive during deadline season x
1. Beaches
Exmouth and Dawlish are student favourites for a reason, and conveniently, both of them are only a short train journey from any Exeter station. Once the weather graces you, the best way to go is to grab some drinks to last you the day, sit in the sun for a few hours, have a dip in the sea, and finish the day off with fish and chips. Classic, but not all Unis are lucky enough to be so close to the water.
2. EGB (if you got tickets…)
Most Read
A heavily sensitive topic amongst Exeter students – we all know someone who was not as lucky as some of us with the Skiddle ticket battle this time around… Lucky for me, I cannot wait for the hectic theme park rides, flowery dresses and Venoms in Shobrooke Park on the 31st of May. EGB, to this day, is my favourite Exeter event, and I look forward to it every year. To those of you still debating going through the re-sellers, I genuinely think EGB is the one I would risk getting scammed for (though hopefully you won’t)
3. Hijacked Festival
For fans of DnB or Fever Room 1-esque music, many recommend Hijacked. Truthfully, there is nothing more fun than walking down to Double Locks with some journey juice in hand for a day of essentially drinking in a field full of music, in true student fashion. What more could you want?
4. Touch Duckes
If you fancy some group fun of touch rugby or rounders with your housemates, Touch Duckes is your go-to. Although, ironically, it’s definitely not embarrassing playing rugby in front of other professional rugby players… Personally, I’ll be sticking to rounders and watching the cheerleaders’ performance. You guys have fun with the rugby.
5. Sitting outside
Finally, it’s time for us all to touch some grass! In term three, the outside study spaces on campus will be your best friend. Many love a cheeky pint at The Ram in their break from studying, but think beer gardens (especially The Imperial), Cathedral Green, all with Aperol Spritz season in full swing – just writing about it is making me so excited, and we truly got a taste of it at the end of term two with the beautiful weather.
6. Submitting your dissertation (or finishing your exams)
This one’s mainly aimed at us final years, so scroll ahead dear freshers – but I am so excited to finally not think about my dissertation anymore. I feel like I’ve spent more time panicking about it and sitting in front of my laptop with an empty document, than I have actually writing it. Knowing that it’ll all be over soon is a big relief, and I am also so excited to never think about finding a seat on campus again.
