Uni of Lincoln students required to wear business attire in library next academic year
Sweatshirts and joggers will be on the list of prohibited clothing items
Starting from September 2025, University of Lincoln students will be required to dress in “business attire” whilst studying in the library.
The university has stated in an email to staff that the new rule is being implemented in an effort to improve students’ “mindset, concentration, and overall academic performance”.
A leaked email obtained by The Lincoln Tab outlines the prohibited clothing items, which includes jogging bottoms, hoodies and Crocs.
The list is set to be released to students via email in the coming weeks to prepare them for the change, an insider has reported.
From September, the university will ban all “casual” items of clothing and footwear, encouraging students to wear only “formal” outfits to the library.
The new library attire mentioned in the email includes smart shirts, formal trousers and work shoes.
University of Lincoln vice-chancellor, Professor Neal Juster, told The Lincoln Tab: “This is a great opportunity for students to dress in the way they are required to in a professional setting. We are implementing this dress code as another preparatory measure to get our students ready for their future careers.”
The dress code will not affect current final years but all continuing students will be required to dress in business attire in the new academic year.
One second year student said: “I don’t think this is a good change at all. People want to be comfy at the library when they’ve got so many deadlines stacking up.
“I think people will stop going to the library all together if they can’t wear their Crocs or hoodies there.”

Another student added: “I get what they’re trying to do, but we know how to dress professionally. It’s just not something we need to do when we’re sitting alone in the library.”
You should probably check the date, you April fools!
