Looking for the perfect day trip near Leeds? We’ve got you covered

With Spring just around the corner (somehow) a cute day trip is calling

Whether you’re in first year, or final year, it’s easy to get caught up in lectures, weekly reading and flatmate drama. So it’s no surprise that a lot of us are experiencing cabin fever, stuck behind the mountainous pile of work which just keeps growing.

A quick trip out of Leeds may be the exact thing to breathe some life back into you.

York

The classic day out from Leeds.

Whether your goal is the most aesthetic day out, or just the perfect pastry, York should absolutely be on the top of your list. It’s cobbled streets, haunting stories and shops of all sorts – even one “soul-ly” dedicated to little figurine ghosts (get it?)– sum up why York’s beauty, history and reputation make for the best excursion.

And, even better, the train directly from Leeds station to York takes under half an hour.

So step away from the textbooks for a few hours and have a day of shopping and sight-seeing to cure some of those study blues. For a delicious brunch – from a big breakfast to a pancake stack – or to get your caffeine fix, try Brew and Brownie on Museum Street. You won’t regret it!

Knaresborough

If a walk with a view is more your scene – Knaresborough is a great spot to consider.

Only 45 minutes away on the train, the infamous bridge towering over the picture-perfect river Nidd makes a top-class photo spot, and will help you breathe away the stresses of your week. And, if you’re feeling adventurous, you could even hop into one of Blenkhorn’s rowing boats (open everyday of the week if the weather permits), and learn a new skill while making lasting memories.

Follow this with a warming café trip or a pint in the local Bay Horse Inn, which stocks the very best Yorkshire beer, to make an idyllic day out.

Skipton

If you’re looking for a more niche day away, why not give Skipton a go?

There are multiple breath-taking walks and views around, with Embsay Crag being a keen favourite (but definitely a challenge), and there is also an ale trail which is not to be missed.

Plus, you can’t forget to pick up a delicious pork pie on your way round – it’s their specialty!

For a 40 minute journey by train, and there being loads to do on offer, what have you got to lose?

Blackpool

Last but by no means least, it may take a little longer to get there from Leeds than some spots at 2 hours, but it’s still a direct train.

Why not go to the coast this weekend for classic fish and chips, a game in the arcades and even enjoy a cocktail at a very unique show?

There are circus shows taking place inside Blackpool Tower, ballroom shows, ABBA tributes and musicals coming to the seaside – so there is absolutely something for everyone.

With the weather, slowly, improving, we all secretly know that a trip to the pleasure beach is something we all enjoy so, no shame, go live your corny life, and take your mind off everything for the day.
