We went to Leeds RAG Fashion Show and it was nothing short of iconic
Still thinking about the layered jean dress tbh
The last weekend of February saw the return of the long anticipated Leeds Rag Fashion Show. To mark their 16th year, the team transformed The Refectory in the University of Leeds Union into a runway for two nights.
This year, the general theme was “Zeitgeist”, designed to capture the soul and spirit of time. As always, the show was raising money for some incredible charities. This year these were Emmaus Leeds, Mind and Leeds Women’s Aid.
The show kicked off with a bang as an incredible violinist took to the runway to introduce the evening.
So, we’ve officially had a few weeks to reminisce, and there’s some looks we’re still dreaming about. Let’s get into the best ones of the event.
‘Regal Revival’
The first looks of the night came under the theme of “Regal Revival – timeless elegance re-imagined”. Think Victorian fashion with a contemporary twist thanks to revamped corsets and bold silhouettes. This bejewelled look with the incredible pink hair intertwined with pearls was fabulous.
‘Art Deco Decadence’
This theme saw the models playfully interact as they walked the runway in supple materials with intricate beading and seriously statement accessories (we’re talking a lampshade).
This turquoise set paired with an eye-catching head piece was incredible. The movement of the feathers on the runway was mesmerising.
‘Psychedelic 60s’
To welcome the audience back after the intermission, in which merchandise and raffle tickets were sold for the chance to win products and experiences from local businesses, models took to the stage in bold colours and patterns under this theme aptly described “rejuvenation of the hippies”.

The makeup was stunning, as were the neon colours on show. We’re still in awe that the models could strut their stuff in those serious platforms. These matching sequin hot-pants were certainly a highlight.
‘Wear The Future’
Last, but certainly not least, was the “timeless tomorrow” segment of the show which saw models dressed in upcycled and revamped pieces stealing the spotlight. Introduced with a thought-provoking message to “slow down your wardrobe” alongside shocking clips of landfill and exploitation in the fast-fashion industry, this was a personal favourite.
Safety pins, silver fabrics and repurposed denim (and even tarpaulins) were the stars for this section of the show. This breath-taking face accessory was hands down one of the most captivating of the night.
To end the evening, the team behind the production took to the stage to discuss the process and thank everyone that helped make the evening magical. The Creative Director emphasised the impact of the fashion industry saying: “Slow down your wardrobe because what you buy means others suffer.”
It was a roaring success, and we can’t wait to see what the team pull out the bag next year.
