Sheffield Students’ Union to host first ‘kink’ night on Friday
It has been pitched as an ‘exclusive, sexy club night’
Sheffield Students’ Union will host its first ever “kink” night this Friday at the Foundry.
The self proclaimed “exclusive, sexy club night” aims to allow like-minded students to meet up in a safe, judgement-free zone, as well as live-stage performances from professional kink artists.
Students will be allowed to “dress up or dress down”, although genitals need to be covered.
On Instagram, Sheffield SU Nights Out said: “Our performers will take over the stage with strip teases, domination and more to get your pulse racing.
“Our DJ will be keeping the dancefloor vibing, hot, and happening. Our decor will transform Foundry into a night club of desires.”

The Foundry will be enforcing additional rules for this night out, including the mandatory cover of phone cameras, as well as no illegal or sexual activity of any kind being tolerated.
Vanessa Morel, a foreign exchange student from France, had some doubts about the security of the night: “I was surprised that a university would do something like that but I guess it’s fine if people are comfortable going to something like this.
“I don’t know if it’s very secure because it said in a post that you would put stickers on the cameras but I feel like people could just remove them, so I don’t know about that part.”

Owen Morris, a third year maths student, said: “I think it’s a bit strange with how much is going to be exposed.
“If there is a demographic for it, I guess people can do what they like, not really my place to say. I wouldn’t go personally, but I guess it’s nice that they can be a bit open.”
Other students are more positive about the night as a whole.
Shibby Hussain, a final year medicine student, said that they would go if they weren’t so busy: “I would view it the same as I would view ROAR. It’s just a night that the SU is holding.
“I think that if you are interested in kink or exploring that kind of thing, then go. If not, then it’s probably not for you.”
Elsewhere in the UK, other universities like Keele, Portsmouth, and Teesside, all have their own dedicated kink societies.
Sheffield SU said in a statement to The Sheffield Tab: “KINK is just one of a variety of events and entertainment that we facilitate each year. It is a student only event and has precautions in place, in addition to our robust safety measures, to ensure it’s safe and enjoyable for all attending.
“Sheffield SU places great value on freedom of speech and expression within the law, and our policies, procedures and processes support this.”
