Manchester students’ campaign for roof repair goes viral on TikTok
They have our hole-hearted support, get it?
A group of students in Manchester have gone viral on TikTok after posting several videos that highlight a large hole in their kitchen ceiling, which their landlord has yet to repair.
The hole, which is located beneath the house’s toilet, has led to a considerable amount of debris and plaster in the students’ kitchen. The origin of the hole remains unknown, only that it “fell down”.
Frustrated by the landlord’s inaction, Alannah Edwards has taken to TikTok to voice the students’ complaints and is pledging to continue posting videos of the hole until the landlord fixes the damage.

The viral video, which has amassed over 180,000 likes and 1.4 million views, features a skit between the students and the “landlord.”
In the TikTok, the “landlord” appears more concerned with the supposed mess in the property for a house viewing than addressing the disrepair in the kitchen. The caption reads: “Milking this until the day it gets fixed (which will be never),” the video suggests that the landlord will “paint over that little dent there in the ceiling.”
The video has sparked hundreds of people to share their own experiences with student properties and issues.
One user said that they also have a hole in their ceiling that was only recently fixed due to severe mould and dampness. Another user commented: “You missed them blaming it on you drying your clothes indoors.”
Other users remarked: “Don’t forget it takes them seven months to reply to your complaint.”
In an update to the series, the students revealed the landlord has now replaced the previously unusable toilet, but is yet to address and replace the ceiling.
