University of Exeter ranks among top 200 in World Reputation Rankings 2025

Rankings reveal the universities with the best ‘academic reputation and prestige’


The Times Higher Education World Reputation rankings for 2025 have been published, revealing the top universities for academic reputation and prestige globally.

The University of Exeter ranked in the 151-200 band in the World Reputation rankings for 2025.

Exeter received an overall score of  34.3 – 39.5 with 10.5 votes. It gained a pairwise comparison of 70.3 and an overall voter diversity of 84.6.

The Times Higher Education World Reputation rankings provide a comprehensive review of institutions excelling in teaching and research. These rankings offer valuable insights into the universities that academics consider the best places to work, research, and study.

The rankings use six performance indicators to offer a more in-depth evaluation of reputation, reflecting its growing importance within the academic community.

The 2025 rankings feature 300 institutions from 38 countries and territories, based on an updated methodology that includes the world’s largest invitation-only academic opinion survey, with responses from over 55,000 scholars worldwide.

Furthermore, a new pairwise comparison system encourages voters to consider a broader range of institutions, while a voter diversity measure rewards universities that receive votes from various territories and academic disciplines.

In the 2025 rankings, the University of Oxford secured joint second, marking the highest position for a UK institution since 2015, with Cambridge closely following in fifth.
