So, which people are still suspects in the investigation into Liam Payne’s death?
Three people have been acquitted, but two are still people of interest
Three people of interest in the investigation of Liam Payne’s tragic death have been acquitted of manslaughter charges. But two people are still suspects. Here’s an explanation of which people are still suspects linked to Liam Payne’s death, and which people have been acquitted.
The Argentinian waiter is still behind bars

Braian Paiz has been accused of selling Liam Payne drugs. He was a waiter at a restaurant which Liam Payne, Kate Cassidy and their friends visited on 2nd October. Braian and Liam kept in touch via a private Instagram account. Braian has admitted to doing drugs with Liam Payne in a hotel room. But he denies accepting any money for the drugs.
He previously said on the Argentinian news show Telefa Noticias: “We took drugs together, but I never took drugs to him or accepted any money. I have messages where he’s offering me money because he was apparently used to offering money for everything but I never accepted anything.” Apparently he smoked marijuana while Liam took cocaine.
Braian’s lawyers argue he texted Liam that the drugs were a “gift”. However, Braian also texted Liam Payne: “If you have the money in pesos, we can buy cocaine. I’m off at 11:30.” CCTV footage shows Liam Payne asking for money at the front desk of the hotel, a few hours before Braian arrived there.
One hotel worker is still one of the suspects connected to Liam Payne’s death

21-year-old Ezequiel Pereyra worked at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel where Liam Payne died. He has been accused of supplying Liam Payne with drugs. One of his co-workers gave a statement to the court this week. It read: “When he [Ezequiel Pereyra] was about to leave the hotel, the defendant showed them a $100 bill and told them that ‘I had to run an errand for a guest… I have to bring drugs.”
Another factor the court is considering is the extent to which Liam Payne was conscious when he died. If the drugs did cause Liam Payne to lose consciousness, and that’s why he fell from the balcony, then the men who sold him those drugs could be considered more responsible for his death.
The judges spoke about the fall from the balcony on 19th February. They said: “It is unknown whether it was due to a clumsy manoeuvre on his part near the railing or in the vicinity, or if it happened because he lost consciousness and fell into the void as dead weight.
“Only, thanks to medical reports, some assumptions have been made about their mental condition at the time of the fall, based on the absence of defensive or protective marks at the moment of the impact.”
There wasn’t enough evidence that two of the other hotel workers had been negligent
Two hotel workers called Gilda Martin and Esteban Grassi have been cleared of charges. After Liam Payne caused a disturbance in the lobby, some witnesses saw them carrying Liam Payne up to his room. The judges decided there wasn’t enough evidence that they acted in a “thoughtless, reckless or merely negligent behaviour”. They have been cleared of all manslaughter charges.
Rogelio ‘Roger’ Nores has been acquitted

The judge has finally ruled that Liam Payne’s friend couldn’t have prevented his death, and didn’t contribute to Liam “obtaining and consuming alcohol” on the day he died.
Roger Nores is currently suing Liam Payne’s father Geoff Payne for $10 million (£8.1 million).
