This wild Severance theory about Helly R changes everything and guys… I believe it

I can’t cope with this show

Severance season two is only two episodes back and already we can let out a sigh of relief that the show is still just as amazing as season one. The first season of Severance is honest to god one of the greatest seasons of any TV show I’ve ever watched. The show tells the story of those employed at Lumon who have undergone a controversial procedure known as severance – splitting their inside work persona from their external self. This means that those inside work – innies – know nothing of their outies and vice versa. After the wild cliffhanger of season one, this new Severance season two theory about Helly R is so wild that it’s making me think of the entire show differently.

The context

The season one finale of Severance gave us a huge reveal: The outie of Helly R is Helena Eagan, a descendant of the founder of Lumon and the current CEO’s daughter. This explains why despite the fact Helly R is desperate to not be an innie anymore and even goes to the extent of trying to take her own life, her outie refused to let her. Helena Eagan got severed as good PR for the company, but when the overtime contingency climax of the rebellious innies caused uproar on the outside, we now have a better glimpse of what Helena Eagan is like on the outside world when she’s not the Helly R we know and love.

The theory…

One fan theory that people are truly buying into, including me, is that Helly R herself has not actually returned to the severed floor. The theory basically suggests that despite Helly R coming down to work with the rest of those who’ve undergone severance, it’s actually Helena Eagan just pretending to be the Helly we met in season one.

This would mean that Helena on the outside has studied the behaviour of Helly R, and is impersonating her to further Lumon’s grip on the goings on of the severed floor. Evidence suggesting this includes the fact Helly R lied about what she saw on the outside world when the overtime situation happened. She claimed she saw something really mundane, rather than the dramatic events that actually unfolded. Whilst she might also have just not wanted the group to judge her or distrust her by telling them her big Lumon connection, there’s a bit more evidence that she was Helena lying.

When we saw the severed go back to work and head down the lift, we normally always get a little elevator “ding” noise that signifies to us as viewers that we’re changing from outies to innies. When Helena Eagan went in the lift, no ding came.

I need episode three for more evidence NOW.
