In your influencer era? Here are the most Instagrammable spots on Uni of Leeds’ campus

Channel your inner Serena and Blair on the Parkinson steps

Calling all Instagram enthusiasts….

University of Leeds arguably has one of the most photogenic campuses in the UK. Whether you’re a fresher showing off your new campus to your friends at home, trying to improve your Insta feed or just looking for a new picturesque place to hang out on campus, this list has all the top spots you’ll want to visit.

‘Wavy Bacon’

Other nicknames include “the squiggle” and more recently I heard “the burnt bacon”.

I had to start this list off with a fresher’s classic. This popular picture spot was created by Keith Wilson as a symbolic sculpture of a “Sign for Art” and is located centrally on campus, near Baines Wing.

Arriving at the university in 2014, this sculpture has been the background of countless campus pictures and looks even better at Christmas time!

The School of English bunnies

As an English student myself, I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve almost been late to a seminar because I’ve been too busy taking pictures of the adorable bunnies outside and around the School of English.

These cuties are usually spotted on campus in the spring and summer months but if you’re walking past the school at any other time in the year, you’re bound to spot a few rabbits in passing.

Parkinson Building

Probably the most iconic building at the Uni of Leeds. Whether you’re snapping pics of the building when it’s lit up at night or admiring it in passing, the Parkinson building is a beautiful must-visit Instagrammable spot, both inside and out.

Also, one for the Gossip Girl fans…eating your meal-deal with your friends on the Parkinson steps is the perfect way to channel your inner Serena and Blair and their iconic lunch-breaks on the NYC Met steps.

Clothworkers Court and Clothworkers Court Arc

The go-to place for your Uni of Leeds graduation Insta pic. Located next to the Great Hall, Clothworkers Court is a stunning historical backdrop constructed between 1877 and 1912 and it’s red-brick exterior looks beautiful in all seasons.

The name comes from the Worshipful Company of Clothworkers of the City of London, who gave financial aid to both the Textiles and Tinctorial Chemistry departments, who then became the founding academic disciplines of the Uni of Leeds.

Sit on one of the benches in the Court to really soak in your surroundings.

Brotherton Library (main room)

My personal favourite. Walking through here for the first time was what really made me first start to feel like a real student.

From the breathtaking marble pillars to the bookshelves packed with centuries of literature, the Brotherton Library is bound to impress your friends and followers. Though I must warn newbies, it is genuinely so quiet in there that you can hear yourself breathe.

Roger Stevens Pond

Okay hear me out. As controversial as the Roger Stevens building is, the duck pond outside this Brutalist building is actually really pretty.

With benches around the pond, a Caffé Nero just behind it, and sometimes even ducklings spotted in the pond, this area makes for the perfect Instagrammable post-lecture chill spot.

Esther Simpson

This one’s for all those trying to achieve that “clean-girl” aesthetic for their Insta feed.

Minimal, modern, polished, and one of the newer builds on campus, the vibes of Esther Simpson are unmatched, and it is definitely one of the chicest spots on campus.

Business School

Whether you prefer older buildings, modern buildings, or fancy a mixture of both, the Business School genuinely has it all. From the gothic and cozy attic room, to the ultra-modern, open-spaced study areas, to the views from the rooftop area, there’s plenty of things to snap.

And to persuade you even more, the built-in Caffé Nero makes it super easy to get your much needed caffeine-fix.

Third floor view at Laidlaw Library

Or just any window-seat in Laidlaw with a view of the city. In peak exam-season this is almost a sacred spot to get and is the perfect place to people watch and procrastinate doing your work.

If you stay long enough, the sunset over the city makes for a stunning Insta pic.

Woodhouse Moor

Okay so this one’s not technically on campus but for the amount of times students visit here, it may as well be.

Located next to the Business School, Woodhouse Moor Park is a vibe no matter what season it is. During the daytime, the park is an aesthetic backdrop to thousands of students’ morning commutes to campus, countless summer BBQs and many events like the weekly parkrun.
