Announcements and albums: The big pop culture happenings postponed by the LA wildfires

Meghan Markle’s Netflix show has been pushed back until March

The wildfires engulfing LA this month are harrowing, and the blaze is having an instant effect on pop culture happenings across the entertainment world – hit with postponed dates and cancellations.

The devastating wildfires are still blazing through Los Angeles, and they are sadly predicted to continue until at least Wednesday. Strong winds and dry weather across California are creating the perfect environment for the fires to spread at scarily rapid rates. They have been ongoing for almost a week now after the first fire broke out last Tuesday (January 7) and a huge amount of land has burned.

In total, the wildfires have swept through 40,306 acres, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has revealed.

With all this devastation happening, and as the entertainment industry reels from its epicentre being changed forever – massive pop culture happenings set for this month and to kick off the industries in 2025 have been hit with pushbacks. Here’s a rundown of all the pop culture happenings that have been affected by the LA wildfires so far.

Beyoncé’s announcement

The rumours about what Beyoncé was going to be announcing since she teased SOMETHING was coming after her halftime show special on Netflix have been feral, so it was particularly devastating but completely understandable that the announcement has been postponed.

Beyoncé wrote “I continue to pray for healing and rebuilding for the families suffering from trauma and loss”.

The Weeknd postponed his upcoming album

The Weeknd’s latest project has been pushed back til the end of the month. He also cancelled the Rose Bowl concert he had planned. Abel explained “My focus remains supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.”

Oscar nominations

The Oscar nominations have been delayed to January 23rd. The voting period begins now on January 17th, one of the most impactful of the pop culture happenings postponed by the LA wildfires.

With Love, Meghan

Meghan Markle’s much anticipated Netflix show has been moved all the way back to March, as Markle herself explains “we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.

Selling Sunset filming

For very obvious reasons, Jason Oppenheim has confirmed that the filming of season nine of Selling Sunset has been halted.

Robbie Williams’ Better Man film premiere

Poor Robbie has been trying to break the US with Better Man – a film that has been critically acclaimed here and could have helped to educate Americans on Robbie, as he’s significantly less famous there. The film has bombed at the box office and the LA premiere was halted due to the fires.
