Ex-KCL Conservative Association president says sex between siblings should not be banned

Charles Amos also said ‘homosexuals who contract HIV’ are a burden on the NHS

An ex-Conservative Association president at King’s College London has said that sex between siblings should not be banned.

On Thursday 19th December, Charles Amos went live on GB News to say that incestuous relationships between cousins and siblings should not be banned in the United Kingdom.

He told hosts, Andrew Pierce and Ellie Costello, that “individuals should be free to marry and have children with almost whoever they want,” and when asked if he would include siblings in this, Charles replied: “I would include siblings in that.”

This rather unusual debate comes after Conservative MP Richard Holden called for a ban on first-cousin marriages in the UK.

Defending his views, Charles told the news hosts: “If you look at the number of birth defects amongst individuals that are father and daughter or brother and sister, it’s about 57 per cent, and although you may go: ‘Well that’s absolutely terrible,’ I would know that those individuals wouldn’t exist at all if it weren’t for these marriages that created them so they are made no worse off.”

He then continued by saying: “It’s better to have those birth defects and exist than not exist at all.”

When host Andrew Pierce countered that birth defects are “a burden on the NHS”, Charles agreed but stated that “but so are homosexuals who contract HIV.”

Adding: “We don’t ban gay sex, do we?”

The hosts on the GB News panel appeared shocked by Charles’ comments with host Ellie Costello told the KCL grad incest has been regarded as incredibly wrong for centuries, as it could create “catastrophic disadvantages” for children produced as a result.

Further reflecting on Charles’ defence that an existence with a birth defect is better than no existence at all, Ellie calls his argument “strange” and exclaimed how children born through rape would not exist, but that this doesn’t make rape “morally acceptable”.

However, Charles maintained that disabled people can still live fulfilled lives, adding that his position is not totalitarianism, but that rather the positions of hosts Pierce and Costello are.

He said: “You’re not helping children by banning cousin marriage.”

Charles was also asked about whether he agrees with the age of consent where he stated that he was not “willing to discuss” that right now and would perhaps instead write about it in an academic journal article in the future.

Although, when asked about this by The King’s Tab, Charles said: “I do believe in the age of consent.”

Charles, who is a political commentator, graduated from King’s in 2022, with a degree in political economy.

However, during his time at the university, he was the subject of significant controversy, when he was removed from his presidency at KCLCA after a unanimous vote of no confidence was made against him by other members of the association.

The voting took place after Charles publicly made statements about his opposition to gay marriage, a desire to privatise all education and the NHS, and finally, as described by Charles, “ethnic based private covenant communities.”

After his appearance on GB News last week, Charles has since published a Substack fully defending his belief in incest as ok.

When the King’s Tab asked Charles if he would like to comment on these reports, and he said: “It’s fine to have children with family provided they have a worthwhile life, as the vast majority of disabled people do.”
