KCL has the highest percentage of female students out of all Russell Group universities

Who runs the world? Girls

Out of the 24 Russell Group universities in the United Kingdom, King’s College London has the highest percentage of female students.

According to High Education Statistics Agency, female students make up 63.9 per cent of the student body at King’s in 2024. However, this is not the first year that women have made it on top in numbers – but the second year in a row.

Other Russell Group universities in London are significantly below King’s College London in percentage of female students. On Strand campus territory, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is 57.3 per cent female in its student population. Meanwhile, KCL’s greatest rival, University College London (UCL), is 55.5 per cent female-populated.

However, Imperial College London has the lowest percentage of female students of the UK Russell Groups as only 43.5 per cent of students are female-identifying.

Finally, Queen Mary, University of London is 53.0 per cent female-populated.

These statistics demonstrate that female students are growing more encouraged to pursue STEM related subjects, such as ones that are offered solely at LSE, and are thus transforming a previously male-dominated degree field.

Overall, there are also generally more women studying at Russell Group universities than males.
