Omg, did you spot Cillian Murphy’s grisly fate in crazy trailer for 28 Years Later?

The film has been over 20 years in the making

Eagle-eyed folks on Twitter have spotted who they believe to be Cillian Murphy’s character Jim in the first official trailer for 28 Years Later.

Without the powerhouse that is 2002’s 28 Days Later, we probably wouldn’t have zombie projects such as The Walking Dead, Zombieland, and World War Z. It revitalised the dying zombie horror genre, with the film itself scoring an impressive 87 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes while grossing $45 million in the US despite a limited release.

The ending of 28 Days Later sees Cillian Murphy’s character Jim being recused by a helicopter alongside Selena, a biochemist played by Naomie Harris. After starring in other projects like Oppenheimer, it looks like Cillian is back to blood and gore.

More than twenty years after the first film, the franchise is returning to screens once again with 28 years later, which, you guessed it, takes place 28 years after Jim’s first brush with the living dead. This project is fronted by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jodie Comer, but Cillian was always expected to make an appearance. The trailer seemingly confirmed that theory, though not in the way you might expect.

In the final few moments of the trailer, which has already banked nearly 700k views on YouTube, a zombie bearing an eerie resemblance to Jim rises out of the grass behind Jodie Comer’s character.

Reacting to the Jim sighting, one person wrote on Twitter: “Either Cillian Murphy is having fun with a double role or Jim does not have a happy ending in his fate.”

“28 YEARS LATER movie trailer is out, why did they do my guy Jim/Cillian like this lol noooooooooooooo #28YearsLater,” another cried.

Someone else wrote: “Yo it’s my boy Oppenheimer! #28YearsLater.”

Is Cillian Murphy in 28 Years Later?

Cillian Murphy is pegged as executive producer of 28 Years Later, with several reports also suggesting that he might be taking up an acting role too. Whether this is simply a zombified version of Jim or a continuation of his human story, is yet to be seen.

We are also yet to receive official confirmation of him starring in the flick, though Twitter has been obsessing over pictures of Cillian allegedly acting on the set with his Jim haircut and similar clothing. Admittedly, he might just be dressed in post-apocalyptic chic.

Speaking to The Independent in January, he said he would love to bring new life to Jim in 28 Days Later.

“That’s great to hear,” he said after hearing the news that it was in development. “I didn’t know that – I would be there in a flash. I made two movies with both of those guys, and I would love to work with them again. Of course, I’m there.”
