This is what Christmas song your Exeter Uni accom is, based on pure vibes

I’m defrosting my Xmas playlist for pres

After the snow we experienced in Exeter last week, campus is finally beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. The Christmas markets are up, Batty Bingo is making a festive comeback and your will to attend lectures is decreasing by the house – it truly is the season.

With Christmas fast approaching, this means your pres playlist will slowly become infected with festive classics and cheesy pop remixes that have jingle bells ringing in the background.

It’s that time of year where you will get sick of hearing the same three Christmas songs on repeat, but hey, it’s Christmas! So, it’s tiiiiime to start blasting Christmas music around your Exeter Uni halls. So, here’s which Christmas song fits your student accommodation’s vibe.

Birks Grange Village – Sleigh Ride

I feel sorry for all the Birks Grange students out there that had to endure snowy Cardiac Hill last week. They were slipping and sliding down the monstrous steps and definitely stacked it a couple of times.

So, for Birks Grange, their Christmas song would be Sleigh Ride. It’s festive, cheerful and provides the same warm vibe that the Birks community has to offer.

Also, it resonates well with the frosty memories of Cardiac Hill. Why fear the icy hill when you can grab a friend and take a ride down Cardiac to get into the Christmas spirit?

Duryard/Moberly – Christmas Wrapping

For Duryard and Moberly, their song would be Christmas Wrapping as the lyrics in this song definitely resonates with the location of their accommodation. As the lyrics of the chorus goes, “Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, but I think I’ll miss this one this year”, Duryard and Moberly students can definitely relate to this when deciding whether to attend their lectures or not. If you’ve never met a Duryard or Moberly student on campus, it’s because they haven’t done the trek to campus since September.

Holland Hall – It’s the Most Wonderful Time of The Year

With Holland Hall known for being the “rah” student accommodation in all of Exeter, it would only be appropriate that their Christmas song would be about how it’s the “most wonderful time of the year”.

Every day for Holland Hall students is a wonderful time of year as they wake up to the beautiful view and landscape of Exeter. Everyone is lowkey jealous of Holland Hall residents and everyone wants to be them. That view on a snow day? I’d definitely agree that it IS the most wonderful time of the year to be in Holland.

Mardon Hall – I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

A very rogue choice for a Christmas song. If you replace the word “Hippopotamus” for a “room in Holland Hall”, then you get what every Mardon Hall resident wishes for.

Mardon Hall is known as Holland Hall 2.0. They will definitely be ringing up their Mummy and Daddy to complain about how they aren’t in their own Holland Hall studio and that they don’t have their own personal butler to serve them avo on toast every morning.

Don’t worry Mardon Hallers, I’m sure your flatmate will get you something nice for Secret Santa like another signet ring.

East Park – All I Want for Christmas is You

For East Park, their Christmas anthem would be none other than Mariah Carey herself. It’s obnoxious, overplayed but always a top hit that every pop singer wishes they could achieve.

The classic song is similar to how every Exeter student feels when they meet someone from East Park. Although it’s more recent than a lot of classic Christmas songs, All I Want for Christmas is You has definitely made its mark on the Christmas music market and brought Mariah Carey millions. New on the market, brings in the big bucks and a reasonable object of envy? Sounds like the hallmarks of East Park accom to me.

James Owen Court – Happy Xmas (War is Over)

If you live in James Owen Court, the chorus of this song must really speak to you on your trek to the main campus from Sidwell Street.

“War is over is what I can only imagine a JOC student must chant as they finally approach their first lecture of the season. I’ve never met a James Owen Court resident, myself, but just like this Christmas tune, you’re a bit out there (from the main campus) and not one of the first that comes to mind.

Old Laf – You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch

Living in a cold, barren cave in the mountains, the Grinch does not have even a semi-amicable place to live. I bet any resident of Old Lafrowda could relate to this on a very personal level. Old Laf residents are very aware of their sub-par accommodation allocation and will complain about it to anyone listening — a real “bah-humbug”. However, they also make up for it by having a “trauma-bonded” community. It’s a mean one, no doubt about it, but Old Laf deserves at least some credit for making the best of a sticky situation.

New Laf – Rockin Around the Christmas Tree

New Laf has always been known for being a upbeat and very social accommodation. They are always hosting some sort of pres, always down for a flat party and always down for some mischief. So, their Christmas tune would be Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, as they are always dancing away and boogeying.

With New Laf’s proximity to both campus and town, anyone staying in New Laf already know they are the ones hosting pres. This classic Christmas song would be perfect for their vibe for their next Laf pres.
