The condition affects 20 to 30 people per 100,000 each year
Tulisa has been transparent about her shocking transformation, revealing to her I’m A Celeb campmates that she suffers from a paralysing condition called Bell’s palsy, a disorder that affects a few other celebrities you know.
“My whole face just dropped. Eye everything. I couldn’t even move it. So, my face remained like that for seven months. I didn’t go out, I just hid. Coming to the end of the seven months, my face is still not right. I still have the mild swelling,” she told Olivia Attwood.
To combat the condition Tulisa attempted to use filler to “balance” her face, something she was constantly forced to keep up with to maintain her appearance. Only recently has she begun to try out the world of cosmetic surgery.
Bell’s palsy is a neurological disorder that causes paralysis or weakness on one side of the face, affecting 20 to 30 people per 100,000 each year. But did you know Tulisa is not the only I’m A Celeb cast member to have suffered with the condition?
1. Scarlett Moffatt
Most of the UK knows Scarlett Moffatt as the queen of reality TV, having appeared in Gogglebox, Saturday Night Takeaway, and Scared of the Dark. In 2016, she also rose victorious as the queen of the jungle in I’m A Celeb.
Speaking to The Sun’s Fabulous in 2022, Scarlett opened up about her childhood battle with Bell’s palsy that began from the horrific combination of a car accident and her father’s battle with skin cancer.
“It was a stressful time and I remember always having a knot in my stomach,” she said. “And that’s when I developed tics. I had eye twitches and really bad breathing ones.”

Following the diagnosis of Bell’s palsy, Scarlett remembered “standing in front of the mirror literally screaming trying to stop it, trying to get my face straight.”
2. Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie is one of the most recognisable faces on the planet, which is not surprising when you consider her ever-expanding catalogue of work. Though often viewed as a stoic giant in Hollywood, her recent divorce from Brad Pitt offered people a more vulnerable aspect of her personality as the breakup had a direct effect on her health.
“My body reacts very strongly to stress. My blood sugar goes up and down. I suddenly had Bell’s palsy six months before my divorce,” she told WSJ Magazine.
3. George Clooney
Another giant in the industry, George Clooney opened up about his fight with Bell’s palsy during a sit-down on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show in 2023.
Sharing a picture of George at 15 with a wonky smile, Jimmy was about to crack a joke as his George chimed in: “You’re gonna make a joke. I have Bell’s palsy there and half of my face is paralysed!”
He added: “It was very awkward being watched like that, everybody looking, and then all of a sudden your face goes flat? My dad would always say, ‘It’s going to go away, you’ll be fine, you can handle it’.”
4. Pierce Brosnan
Even James Bond himself has battled Bell’s palsy, or at least one of his actors, Pierce Brosnan, has. While working 16-hour days on the set of Remington Steele in 1982, Pierce claimed he caught the condition while filming a shirtless scene in a river.
He was put on the immune system suppressant Prednisone and found that the condition went away a few weeks later. Still, he insisted he only be shot from the left side of his face to maintain his image.
5. Janet Jackson
Janet Jackson was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy in 2018 and has since been an outspoken advocate for self-acceptance, mental health, and loving the skin you are in.
Other celebrities to have suffered from the condition include Roseanne Barr, Katie Holmes, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sarah Smart, and Jane Greer.
