A lost video of Britney Spears talking about her conservatorship just aired on TV for first time
The clip was cut from The Jonathan Ross Show eight years ago whilst she was still forbidden to discuss it
A video fans long thought lost of Britney Spears discussing the confines of her conservatorship on The Jonathan Ross Show just aired on TV for the first time, over eight years later. Britney Spears had herself referenced discussing it on the show in her book, but claimed the comments never made it to TV – and now we have proof.

Britney Spears appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show in 2016 to promote her album Glory. Britney had said many times that this album was her taking control in the creative direction and the music in a way that she hadn’t in a while – and even fans and non-fans agree that it showed in both the music and the critical reception the record got.
Britney Spears has since spoken openly about how trapped she was in the conservatorship, which was led by her father Jamie Spears and resulted in him controlling her business and personal life for 13 years. The footage has seen the light of day after The Jonathan Ross Show aired a montage of memorable moments over the weekend, and included the clip of Britney Spears discussing her conservatorship.
Ross says “The new album… you are more involved in this, musically, I understand, than previous ones? So you’ve taken control. You’re more in control of your music than before? Why did it take you so long? Why did you wait ‘til now to do it?”

Britney responds “Well, there are a lot of reasons, but I won’t get into the whole story.” Jonathan Ross reassures her that she doesn’t have to speak on anything about her troubles that she doesn’t wish to.
“Since the conservatorship… I felt like a lot of [things] were planned for me to do and, you know, being told what to do. And I was just like, for this [album] I want to make it my baby, and I want to do it myself, and I was very strategic about the way I did it, and, um, yeah, that’s why it means so much to me.”
Britney Spears had previously said of this conversation in her acclaimed book The Woman In Me “I even mentioned the conservatorship on a talk show in 2016, but somehow, that part of the interview didn’t make it to the air. Huh. How interesting.”
When Britney was eventually freed from her cruel conservatorship in 2021, she described it as “the best day ever”. Britney forever.
