New nightclub/pub ‘hybrid’ approved for Glasgow city centre

Empty Merchant City offices will be converted into a new night out venue

Glasgow City Council has granted permission to turn empty offices into a new nightclub/pub “hybrid”.

The applicant, C&C Capital, had previously renovated the location into serviced office accommodation, but the business venture was unsuccessful. The corporation has now requested permission for the failed office space to be converted into a licensed premises.

Planning permissions were granted on 7th October 2024 for the new nightclub located at 71 Glassford Street. The approved planning includes both the basement and ground floors of the Merchant City site.

The proposed open hours will be from 11pm until 3am, and the business claims to provide up to 100 new full-time and part-time jobs.

The site is surrounded on one side by The Spires Serviced Apartments, a short-term apartment rental facility, and on the other by Homeless Project Scotland, a charity that supports those experiencing homelessness.

Situated in the centre of Merchant City, this location is near many other popular bars and nightclubs, such as AXM, Polo, Delmonicas, and Blane Valley. The site is also two doors down from the recently opened boutique hotel, House of Gods.
