The price of a Glasgow night out has increased by 40 per cent in the last two years
So, if you’re planning a night out, be prepared to dig a little deeper into the student loan for a few cheeky pints!
The cost of a night out in Glasgow has increased by over 40 per cent in the last two years.
According to a recent study, published in the Glasgow Live, they examined several factors, which would drive the cost of a night out, considering everything from travel expenses to the average price of a pint to the ESSENTIAL post-night out meal.
Glasgow was placed fifth in the study looking at which cities have had the highest night out price increases, with a 40.60 per cent price increase, with Oxford in first, taking the crown with the biggest price increase in the UK.
It estimated that the average night out in 2024 would cost around £186, compared to 2022, which was estimated to cost £132. This includes the average weekend hotel cost of £157, a taxi fare of £5.60 a mile, one-way public transport at £2.77, three pints for £13.50, and a classic McDonald’s meal at £7 to soak it all up!
However, whilst a takeaway from 727 to end the night is a Glasgow student essential, the cost of hotels might be too glamorous for us students. While unfortunate, it will not affect our fellow Murano residents for example.
So, if you know Glasgow well, have a handy Young Scot card and have a knack for hunting those sweet student deals, Glasgow can still be affordable, and a pint doesn’t have to cost your student loan! From discounted drinks to two for one cocktails, there are plenty of incredible deals around the West End and the city centre. From Hillhead Bookclub offering £4 Jubel, Tennent’s and Bridgate to Box Bar handing out student discount cards, to cut the cost of a night out in half. A drink doesn’t have to cost a fortune, despite what the survey says.
