University of Glasgow is in the top 100 universities in the world, according to The Times
It also came out on top of the city’s other universities
The University of Glasgow has maintained its position amongst the world’s top educational institutions as per Times Higher Education Rankings 2025.
New rankings showed the university came in at 87th, the same as in the previous year.
Times Higher Education says it provides “the definitive list of the world’s best universities, with an emphasis on the research mission”.
It makes judgement of “research intensive universities across all of their core missions” such as teaching, research environment and quality, industry and international outlook.
In order to rank the institutions, “18 carefully calibrated performance indicators” are used to provide what it describes as “the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons”.
Glasgow’s overall ranking via the formula used to devise the league table was 67.8, with exceptionally high rankings in research quality and international outlook, both scoring 96 respectively.
Although Glasgow remains at 87th globally according to these criteria, the overall score is a slight reduction on the previous year’s overall score of 68.2.
Glasgow’s other institutions were also ranked on the list, with the University of Strathclyde placing ambiguously 351-400th, while Glasgow Caledonian University ranked 801-1000th, rounding off an impressive showing for the city.
Similarly, Paisley’s University of the West of Scotland ranked at 601-800th. All four universities’ impressive showings put them all within the world’s 1000 top institutions. A great feat for Glasgow.
Earlier this year the University of Glasgow also moved up three places in the QS World University rankings. Its continued trend of impressive rankings mark a successful end to the time of Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli as principal and vice-chancellor of the University. He is to retire from the role in 2025 following a long lasting stint beginning in 2009.
