Attention Swifties: Swiftogeddon came to York and cured my post Eras Tour depression

Swiftogeddon came to York this week

The iconic Taylor Swift themed club night Swiftogeddon stopped in York this week and it was a night out of every swifties Wildest Dreams. (Buckle up, there will be a lot of unsubtle Taylor Swift puns throughout).

The famous club night that exclusively plays songs by Taylor Swift has gained loads of popularity over the last few years, while touring the country. I went along with some friends to see what all the fuss was about and I can confirm it was an extremely fun night filled with lots of dancing.

The night was hosted at the York Barbican which I had never been to before, but was a big venue that held loads of swifties of all ages and gave lots of room for people to really dance. SwiftSoc were also there dancing the night away and taking full advantage of the exclusive Taylor Swift playlist.

The DJ was one of the most enthusiastic and wholesome DJs I have ever come in contact with. He appeared as a normal middle aged DJ, but he was probably the biggest swiftie in the room (which was impressive). He kept shouting out how amazing and diverse Miss Swift’s discography was and interacted with the crowd by singing along all the lyrics. I loved his energy and frankly it restored my faith in DJ kind. You could say he became King Of My Heart.

There were fans of all levels there, with die hard Swifties who knew every lyric and were even dressed up in iconic Taylor outfits, to people who just knew the hits but wanted to have fun and dance! There was a lovely atmosphere in the room with everyone appearing Down Bad for the ultimate pop princess.

I actually had my first ever sober night there (which is very unlike me, but needs must when battling freshers flu) and it was such a positive experience. The vibes were so good, I did not feel the need to drink to have a good time.  It was a very supportive atmosphere with people drinking at different levels and there to just have fun and scream some unhinged lyrics.

They played a range of Taylor Swift’s discography from her famous hits like Style, You Belong With Me and I Can Do it With A Broken Heart, to some of her more deep cuts of her discography such as Illicit Affairs, Hits Different and My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys. Songs from every one of her 11 albums were played and there was something for everyone.

All the Swifties also partook in all of the fan traditions and my favourite moment was when the whole crowd placed their hands in hearts during Fearless. I also loved when the DJ played Welcome To New York but took out the word “new” so every time the chorus played, Swift sang “Welcome to … York”.

Overall, it was a very Enchanted night filled with great songs and lots of fun with my friends. I loved seeing everyone’s outfits and their enthusiasm when All Too Well (10 minute version) came on. I would recommend Swiftogeddon to any fan of Taylor Swift and all I have to say to Swiftogeddon is Come Back….Be Here.
