Pointless books and advent calendars: Ranking YouTuber products by how useless they are
The Zoella advent calendar was half price before December even hit
When you hit a certain level of YouTube fame, it becomes a sort of rite-of-passage to sell some kind of useless product that costs 2p to make that you’ll resell for 100 times the price. There was a time when YouTuber products were only put out if you had a particular skill, like Joey Graceffa’s Children of Eden. But soon, everyone saw how easy it was to make a fortune on selling literally anything to your YouTube audience. Here’s a ranking of YouTuber products based on just how useless they are.
6. Jake Paul’s random biography
Released in the hayday of YouTuber books, it’s so obvious that Jake Paul wrote this in one sitting. You Gotta Want It is supposed to be a motivational book detailing how he shot to his level of YouTube success, but upon reading it, it’s a weird stream-of-consciousness book that dives into unrelated memories and even his sexual history. Like how is that going to help us become a YouTuber Jake?
5. Prime energy drink
Most Read
I’ve definitely tasted worse drinks, but is it really worth the extortionate price resellers and corner shops are charging? No. The truth is, without the Logan Paul/KSI brand plastered on the bottle, the drink would be nowhere near as popular. Prime has next-level sport partnerships too, like with FC Bayern and Alisha Lehmann. Personally? I’ll stick with my pink Monster thanks.
4. Cordially Invited by Zoe Sugg
You are Cordially Invited to pay £12.85 to learn how to write on a chalkboard and make paper chains: I can’t think of a more random concept for a YouTuber book than how to plan a garden party, especially when her fanbase were 10-15 year-old girls. What year seven is planning a sophisticated afternoon tea in the garden? None, everybody knows that they hang out on random street corners drinking a 39p energy drink from Co-op.
3. Mr. Beast’s Feastables
I have tried Mr Beast’s newest venture, and it’s not really worth the type to be honest. The chocolate is okay but I’d much rather have a dairy milk. The Americans don’t get it like we do!!
2. The Pointless Book
This has to be one of the most *pointless* products ever made by a YouTuber. It was made by Alfie Deyes who went by PointlessBlog, who was basically known for being Zoella’s boyfriend (sorry but it’s true) and his iconic “I am not a tory” quote. I was thoroughly disappointed when I received one of these books for Christmas one year and realised page by page that about 10 minutes of work had gone into designing it. The point of the book was to destroy it or just draw random things that made no sense. 12 year-old me was NOT impressed.
1. The awful Zoella Advent Calendar
I can’t believe Zoella has made the list twice, but it really wouldn’t be complete without a calendar mention. That calendar really wasn’t worth its £50 price tag – and even Boots knew it. It was knocked down to half price before the first of December, and absolutely crucified by commentary YouTuber and popular podcast host JaackMaate. His video is actually part of Gen Z’s Christmas traditions now and should be mandatory viewing: It came when selling overpriced YouTuber products was at an all time high, and helped to stop the crazy phenomenon.
The calendar tops this YouTuber products ranking because it was berated for including very low-value items such as confetti and stickers, which disappointed fans who paid the hefty price tag. Did I mention it only has 12 doors too?
