Simon Cowell’s clapped back after claims new boyband show flopped and got ‘abandoned’
Rumours said the Netflix show would now ‘focus on Simon Cowell as his pop dream falls apart’
Simon Cowell has clapped back and denied claims his new boyband hunt show for Netflix has been abandoned after he failed to secure any real talent. Over the weekend, it was reported that the upcoming Simon Cowell show would be taken in a new direction focusing on his failure and slip into irrelevancy in the music industry.
The Daily Mail reported this weekend a series of claims from an insider that the show Simon Cowell has been promoting which follows him as he tries to make the next big boyband once again had been “abandoned” after not really being able to find any talent. The Mail also claim the show is called The Midas Touch.
The Mail insider said the show had been taken in a different direction, and now will highlight the shift in Cowell’s relevancy in the music industry. The insider says “Simon has been told the original idea behind the series needs to change. Rather than focusing on the creation of a boyband capable of going on to massive success, the focus is now much more on him.
“His frustration is at the auditions where many of the singers turning up are cast-offs from bands that didn’t make it. But perhaps more crucially, Simon has been told to come to terms with the fact that maybe the era of the chart-topping boyband is over. It is devastating for him.”

The Mail says a producer told the publication “It’s going to be a documentary on Simon coming to terms with the fact the golden days of discovering boybands might be over. It might be compelling viewing to watch his downfall after so many years as the star of Saturday night TV.”

A spokesperson for Simon Cowell says the boyband show hasn’t been abandoned, and denied all the claims.
“The claims made are false, and the quoted ‘source’ appears to be completely invented,” they insisted. “This project is primarily a search for a boyband, which is being documented; it is not a ‘show’, nor is it titled The Midas Touch, as the journalist claims.
“The article completely misrepresents how the music and documentary team views the audition process and the overall situation as far as the level of talent that the music team have found.”
In the lead up to the show, Simon Cowell has been promoting heavily with big billboards across London announcing his search, with auditions taking place in the likes of Liverpool and Dublin. He also announced he was back working with Louis Walsh.
