Revealed: The Russell Groups where students are unhappy with their uni’s mental health services
Results from the National Student Survey are out
It’s news to absolutely no one that university mental health services can be absolutely god awful. And yet the student mental health crisis still rages on.
But how do the different Russell Group unis compare to each other when it comes to dealing with student mental health? And how well are support services signposted to students?
Well, the results of this year’s National Student Survey are out, a survey of 345,981 students across 520 universities and colleges in the UK, and one of the questions is focused on the effectiveness of university mental health services. Students were asked how well they thought mental health services were signposted to them and students could answer “very well”, “well”, “not very well” or “not at all well”.
At the top of the ranking with the best mental health services is Newcastle University. Of the 3,624 Newcastle students who answered the question, 1,536 said “very well” and 1,590 answered “well”. This means 82.26 per cent of all Newcastle students said they were happy with the signposting of the uni’s mental health support. Newcastle is closely followed by Imperial College London where 85.49 per cent of students said they were happy with the uni’s mental health services.
But at the bottom of the ranking is the University of Edinburgh where only 64.25 per cent of students said they were happy with the university’s mental health services. Of the 3,636 Edinburgh students who answered the question, 817 answered “very well” and 1,519 said “well”. The remaining 1,300 students felt negatively about their uni’s mental health services.
So, these are the Russell Group university mental health services, ranked from worst to best, according to students:
