Guilty! These are the Russell Group unis which are paying your lecturers the least

They teach you every single day (when you actually make it to your 9ams) and sometimes go on strike quite a bit, but do you really know how much money your lecturers are making to teach your hungover little brain about Chaucer or fancy sums?

Well, data released by HESA now tells us how much staff at each Russell Group University are paid. The stats break down uni staff pay into six different brackets of pay bands. These are:

1. Below £21,197 a year

2. Between £21,197 and £27,151 a year

3. Between £27,131 and £36,386 a year

4. Between £36,383 and £48,41 a year

5. Between £48,841 and £65,578 a year

6. Above £65,578 a year

These stats also include all staff and not just lecturers, but the most common band across all unis is by far between £36,383 and £48,841. Not a single Russell Group pays any staff member in band one, below £21,197 a year.

But Durham, Cambridge, Queen’s University Belfast and Birmingham Universities all pay a small number of staff members between £21,197 and £27,131 a year, band two.

So, to work out the Russell Groups where your lecturers are paid the least, The Tab analysed the HESA data to find the percentage of each Russell Group paying its staff the highest band wage.

So this, is how much your Russell Group uni lecturers are actually paid, ranked from highest to lowest:

24. London School of Economics  – 52.97 per cent of staff paid over £65,578 a year

23. University of Liverpool – 37.09 per cent of staff paid over £65,578 a year

6. University of Leeds – 21.71 per cent of staff paid over £65,578 a year

4. University of Exeter – 20.69 per cent of staff paid over £65,578 a year

3. University of Southampton – 20.60 per cent of staff paid over £65,578 a year
