Construction commenced on new £33m accommodation to ease student housing crisis

Urbanite Living has broken ground on a brand new £33 million student accommodation project, Clyde Court, in Glasgow’s bustling city centre.

The development aims to address the acute shortage of purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) for the University of Glasgow and University of Strathclyde students.

The highly anticipated project will offer 169 studio bedrooms equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, catering to the needs of modern students.

Clyde Court, designed by NW Architects, will stand six stories tall, providing comfortable en-suite accommodations furnished with top-notch bedroom furniture and kitchen facilities.

The development also boasts an array of amenities, including two private dining areas, two social study rooms, a cinema, a gym, and various breakout spaces complete with pool tables and a cycle store.

Robertson Construction Central Scotland has been appointed as the main contractor to bring this vision to life.

With Glasgow being a top-tier educational destination, the demand for student housing is on the rise, outpacing the current supply.

The completion of Clyde Court is expected to alleviate this shortage, providing much-needed residential space to support the city’s burgeoning student population.

Adam Sadler, Project Director at Urbanite, expressed delight in commencing construction on the development. He emphasized the importance of Clyde Court in revitalizing Glasgow’s landscape while meeting the pressing need for contemporary and sustainable student living spaces.

The project aims to provide students with a vibrant and inclusive environment that supports their overall well-being and academic success.

Sanjana, an Adam Smith School student at UofG, expressed how she has suffered from the ongoing student housing crisis:

“It is getting harder and harder to find a flat in Glasgow at reasonable prices. Being a student means less disposable income, so it makes it an impossible search especially considering how universities have significantly increased the intake of students from around the world. Adding in the cost of travel, it is becoming a struggle to live with a lower income or budget.”

Urbanite Living has not announced when the project will be opening.
