Cardiff University student killed a mother of two after their cars crashed head-on
Mia Price ‘momentarily’ drove on the wrong side of the road at 80 mph causing the collision
A Cardiff University student has been sentenced after causing the death of mother of two whilst driving.
The “momentary inattention” of 21-year-old Cardiff University student, Mia Price has been blamed for the death of Renata Anna Sumiga, 37, on 16th March 2022.
Price’s vehicle ventured onto the wrong side of the A483 whilst travelling 80 miles per hour and collided with the car carrying Renata, causing her a “devastating” brain injury and severe abdominal injuries, the Daily Mail reports.
Renata’s seven and 10-year-old sons were also passengers in the car, and suffered a broken collarbone and seatbelt injuries to the chest respectively. Her husband Radoslaw Sznajder, driving the car, received a fractured sternum.
Price, who claims to have no memory of the collision, required surgery for a broken ankle, jaw, femur and elbow, and acquired neurological injuries.
The final year law student was driving home in convoy with her father after having just bought a new car.
In an emotional victim impact statement, Renata’s husband Mr Sznajder told the court: “Life is not the same without Renata. She was our glue. She made the children smile all the time. Life gives us less pleasure and we miss her. Our life fell like a house of cards.”
His Honour Judge Twomlow acknowledged the “very deep remorse” felt by Price, and referred to her “previous excellent character,” but added that “no sentence could possibly alleviate the grief felt by her family as a result of her death.”
