Police investigate after vandals allegedly deface Poole signs with ‘Borough of Poo’

The vandalism across the town has sparked a police investigation

A police investigation has been launched concerning the alleged vandalism of the Borough of Poole signs in Hamworthy, Branksome and on the Wessex Way.

The signs have all been altered, with the letters L and E being rubbed out or removed to read “Welcome to Poo.”

Alongside this, there have been reports of signs being tampered with at Sainsbury’s, Poole Quay Hotel and a “Welcome to Poole Harbour” sign, Bournemouth Echo reports.

BCP Council has been made aware of vandalism and has sent staff across the town to clean up the signs.

These incidents have been reported to the police, and an investigation has been launched.

Currently, there have not been any arrests connected with the vandalism.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “We received a report at 6:43pm on Wednesday 14th August 2024 that a number of Borough of Poole signs had been vandalised with a letter being removed from the signs.

“Enquiries are ongoing. No arrests have been made.”

Poole residents Joe Foale-Groves and Gagandeep Jhuti claimed they were behind the vandalism and said they targeted the signs to raise awareness of sewage discharges.

Activist Joe previously has said: “Our ultimate goal is for targets to end sewage discharges into bathing waters and rivers to be brought forward much sooner than 2050.

“The problem has gone on for far too long and changes need to be made for our health, wildlife and climate.”
