Who runs the world? A brief history of all the women who carried men to the Love Island final

Every year when Love Island graces our screens, the nation is filled with despair at the beautiful, intelligent women who settle for men you could find at the kebab shop on a Saturday night. Harsh, but fair. Without fail, there will always be that one absolute BABE on Love Island, who the public just can’t get enough of and who becomes recognised as one of the Love Island final women of fame. She’s typically funny, strong-minded, and of course, a girls’ girl. Yet, she always has the baggage of a fuckboy in disguise, trailing behind and clinging to her with desperation to reach that £50,ooo prize.

This year we had Molly and Tom. We all know who carried who here. Last year’s season proved no different, with Jess dragging Sammy to the final after the scandal of him kissing both Gabby and Amber on the same night, in the same spot. Yikes. It seems that despite the ongoing struggle of women supporting one another to know their worth, these gals just couldn’t get past it. This is every single time the women carried their men to the Love Island final:

Maura and Curtis – Season five

I really don’t know where to start with this one. It was a shock to my system when I remembered these two individuals were once IN A COUPLE? Like, hello? It’s incredible what reality television can do. To begin with, Curtis had messaged Maura on Instagram before the show started. Personally, I cannot stand anything worse than a slide into the DMs – such an ick.

After that, he told Amy the infamous line: “I want to be the person that gets up and makes everyone a coffee so everyone’s ready for the morning.” Yeah, dodged a bullet there, Amy. This then left him well and truly open to pursue Maura, but not without also getting to know Francesca.

Honestly, the absolute cheek of Curtis to disrespect queens like Maura, Amy and Francesca, to be fair. If you can’t tell, I still hold a grudge. Not to mention that whilst he chose to marry Maura in the Snog, Marry, Pie challenge, he snogged Francesca. I don’t think I will ever wrap my head around how an icon like Maura Higgins ended up with this geezer.

Millie and Liam – Season seven

They are one of the only ones in the list who are still together (not forgetting their very public breakup and make up though). In fairness, Liam was alright as far as Love Island blokes go. But, I will never forget when Lillie said she was “shocked” to not be chosen by Liam in the recouping, and then told Millie what had occurred in Casa Amor. Millie stayed so loyal throughout Casa, and my heart hurt when Liam and Lillie kissing appeared on my screen. Millie and her loyalty, however? Queen.

Chloe and Toby – Season seven

I KNEW this guy was suspicious, but couldn’t remember why. A quick Google and boom, there it all is. He first coupled up with Kaz, then Chloe, then Abi, then Mary – classic post-Casa Amor vibes – then eventually back to Chloe. A bit too much bed-hopping for my liking. But you can’t fault Chloe Burrows: A Love Island legend who has gone on to do podcasts and appear in TV shows. You name it and she’s there, causing a riot. So much so to earn her among the notorious Love Island final women of fame.

Indiyah and Dami – Season eight

Don’t get me wrong, this couple is absolutely adorable now. But, once again, Casa caused a stir with both of them choosing to recouple. Unfortunately for Dami, after seeing Indiyah presenting Love Island Aftersun, I couldn’t help but fall in love with her bubbly personality even more. So, he lucks out on this one.

Gemma and Luca – Season eight

Luca was a villain of his series, with a whopping 3,617 OfCom complaints about his treatment of Tasha. For that reason, Gemma must have salvaged the face of their relationship, because I don’t know what else would. Yet another woman who dragged her man through to the Love Island final.

Tasha and Andrew – Season eight

We LOVE Tasha. If there are no Tasha fans, I am dead. This girl got too much hate on her season and she deserves all the love in the world. Once again, the men had to go and ruin it. No offence Andrew, I ship it now. But I am still recovering from when he said: “I licked her tit or whatever.” It had me GAGGED.

Jess and Sammy – Season 10

An absolute queen – Jess, not Sammy. This gal had me from the off, she was so funny and friendly – this is a direct message to Jess to be my friend, please. Sammy, however, big yikes. He got with Gabby and Amber on the same night, and on more than one occasion claimed he was not attracted to Jess. Now, I’m not saying attraction can’t grow with getting to know someone, but he never had anything bad to say about the other girls he lipsed. During which, Jess remained respectful when getting to know other boys and didn’t reallyyy stray. Bad, bad vibes. But at least she’s now recognised among the iconic Love Island final women of fame.

Ella and Tyrique – Season 10

I have never been more excited than when Ella brought Ouzy back to the villa. I was ready for a man to treat her respectfully and with the utmost loyalty, especially after Tyrique had said he “[missed] the game”. I want to say that Tyrique changed his ways, but their heated arguments and swearing at one another fill me with a feeling of dread and somewhat concern. Ella, though, is giving bad bitch.

Molly and Tom – All Stars

Tom’s caused his fair bit of drama in his time, but all-in-all he’s hardly a big personality. Molly, on the other hand, well she wiped the floor with everyone in that All Stars villa. From the moment she appeared as Callum’s ex, to the moment she (note: not “they”) won, Molly was the absolute star of the show. And, she’s tipped to be the most successful islander from this series. She’s the real winner: with or without Tom (or Callum for that matter).
